Join Facilities Management at the University of Oklahoma and be part of a team dedicated to meeting the University's ever-changing needs. Located within Facilities Management, Irrigation Technician designs, programs, and tests the computerized landscape irrigation system. Ensures each station is properly functioning throughout the growing season.

Duties:

  • Designs and relocates irrigation systems including those in newly constructed areas.
  • Programs and tests irrigations systems. Adjusts satellite stations to ensure each one is functioning properly.
  • Schedules controllers and provides a written schedule that is utilized during the growing season.
  • Prepares for signature the order forms for materials needed to repair defective watering systems.
  • Contacts vendors to locate and price needed materials.
  • Maintains inventory of parts and supplies.
  • Ensures that personnel supervised are informed of and adhere to established health and safety practices associated with assigned tasks.
  • Perform and document OKIE811 locates for distribution piping associated with non-potable water distribution.
  • Perform maintenance and upkeep of non-potable water production infrastructure (wells, controls, pumps, valves).
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on all assets associated with non-potable water distribution to include irrigation piping, satellites, sprinklers, valves, wells, pumps, distribution heads, fountains, and greenhouse plumbing around campus.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

SCHEDULE NOTE: Sunlight is needed to complete the duties of this role. The work schedule is adjusted with the seasons to accommodate Daylight Savings. From the day AFTER Memorial Day through Labor Day the work schedule is Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm. From the day AFTER Labor Day through Memorial Day the work schedule is Monday - Friday, 6:30am - 3:00pm.



Job Requirements

Required Education: High School diploma or GED, AND;

  • 24 months turf irrigation and landscaping experience, including some trencher and backhoe experience.

Skills:

  • Basic math and computer skills
  • Read and understand complex written materials such as blueprints, metrics or technical manuals
  • Ability to use tools and equipment including a trencher and backhoe
  • Communicates verbally and in writing to exchange information or give simple instructions
  • Performs recordkeeping operations

Certifications:

  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License in order to drive University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days from hire date

Work Conditions:

  • Physical: Regular exposure to physically demanding tasks such as digging, lifting, bending and stooping,
  • Environmental: Exposure to extreme temperature changes. Handling dirty materials. May be designated as an essential position during emergency closures. May be required to remain on campus overnight during weather or other emergencies.

Departmental Preferences:

  • 12 months experience in locating utilities
