Position Description
We seek a postdoctoral research associate to work with Professor Andrew Davies at Harvard University on a large-scale project investigating how feedbacks between multiple ecosystem engineers shape savanna landscape heterogeneity. This particular position will focus on spatial and ecosystem ecology of white rhinoceros in relation to spatial and foraging behavior and how these relate to nutrient dispersal in the Kruger National Park, South Africa. The research will combine movement data from GPS-tagged white rhinoceros, ecosystem manipulation experiments of termite mounds and high-resolution landscape mapping using Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) to understand how feedbacks between ecosystem engineers (white rhinoceros and termites) shape savanna ecosystems. The postdoctoral researcher will play a leading role in this research, including field work, data analysis and research dissemination, working closely with the project PIs (Dr Davies and Professor Rob Pringle from Princeton University). The successful candidate will be expected to spend significant time at the field site in South Africa, as well as at Princeton University. The appointment is for one year with a possibility of up to three years based on performance.
Basic Qualifications
Candidates must have a PhD in ecology, environmental science, conservation biology or a related field by the time of appointment. The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated experience in movement ecology and/or ecosystem ecology, experience with geospatial software such as QGIS, ArcGIS, ENVI and/or Google Earth Engine and a strong track record of scientific publications and conference presentations in related disciples.Special Instructions
Candidates should upload the following materials:1. A curriculum vitae
2. A 2-3 page cover letter outlining their research interests and experience
3. Names and contact information of three references.
Review of applications will begin on November 1st 2025, with an expected start date of January 1st 2025.
