Position Highlights
The Workplace Access Consultant is an integral member of the Disability Resource Center's (DRC) Workplace Access team at the University of Arizona. This role serves as a key point of contact for university employees, departments, and personnel regarding disability-related accommodations and workplace access. The Consultant collaborates with employees and supervisors to foster inclusive workplace practices, identify and address barriers in the work environment, and determine reasonable modifications or accommodations.In this role, the Consultant conducts research on essential job functions, policies, and best practices, providing well-founded recommendations to both employees and supervisors regarding reasonable accommodations. Additionally, the Consultant acts as a resource on workplace access and Universal Design, partnering with relevant University units to deliver technical guidance and support that enhances accessibility across UA employment environments.
This position offers some flexibility for remote work.

Duties & Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities:
Works as part of a team to ensure access in workplace settings:
- Engages in the interactive process with employees and supervisors to assess the disability-related barrier in the work environment and develop a plan for the implementation of effective modifications or provision and coordination of reasonable accommodation.
- Reviews relevant documentation to determine eligibility for accommodations, maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
- Consults with the Associate Director to determine appropriate modifications or accommodations when necessary.
- Prepares professional correspondence to employees and supervisors regarding the determination of eligibility and appropriate accommodations.
- Provides information and referrals to employees with disabilities.
- Works actively to develop and maintain excellent communication and working relationships with all DRC staff members to ensure effective service delivery, support and collaboration.
- Documents and maintains appropriate and accurate records in electronic and hard files.
- Maintains appropriate confidentiality in verbal and written communications.
Provides ongoing consultation to departments and supervisors on access and Universal Design:
- Provides training to staff and faculty on reasonable accommodation and disability in the workplace.
- Consults with Human Resources, Risk Management or other University units regarding disability and the workplace environment.
- Assures the collection of appropriate data to support service delivery and assessment; prepares periodic activity reports.
- Participates in University committees and other work groups.
- Participates in professional development activities through presentations, publications, attendance at conferences and/or related activities.
- Stays abreast of national, state, and local disability-related issues, as well as Disability Studies scholarship, disability activism, art, and culture.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of disability, access, and reasonable accommodation at the post-secondary level, including knowledge of federal and state laws regarding access for people with disabilities including the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Knowledge of Disability Studies, models of disability, and Universal Design.
- Knowledge of disability and access issues.
- Strong listening and communication skills.
- Strong writing skills developing professional correspondence.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree related to disability, employment, law, human services, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Experience interpreting and applying the Americans with Disabilities Act and other access or equity related laws/policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's, Doctorate, or JD degree related to disability, employment, law, human services, or related field.
- Experience working on disability access issues or institutional equity at a post-secondary institution.
- Experience meeting with individuals one-on-one to gather relevant information, explain policies or processes, and develop solutions.
- Experience interpreting, explaining and applying laws and/or policies.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report
In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University's campuses. These reports disclose information including Clery crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and policies, procedures, and programs the University uses to keep students and employees safe, including how to report crimes or other emergencies and resources for crime victims. As a campus with residential housing facilities, the Main Campus ASR also includes a combined Annual Fire Safety report with information on fire statistics and fire safety systems, policies, and procedures.
