Position Highlights

The University of Arizona's Fred Fox School of Music is seeking a skilled accompanist to play for both general music courses, specific music classes, rehearsals, practice, and performances. The ideal candidate will have been trained specifically to play for vocal and instrumental classes/musicians. Work will be performed under general supervision except for individual practices or with the performer they are accompanying. Occasional evening and/or weekends may be required.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides piano accompaniment for voice classes, rehearsals, practice, and performances.
  • Collaborates with the instructors during the class and in preparation for the class.
  • Accompanies special classes, auditions, and master classes - occasional evening and/or weekends.
  • Provides guidance for the performers and assists the class instructor.
  • Assists in selecting music to be rehearsed, practiced, studied, and performed.
  • May occasionally substitute for classes and attend meetings as needed by request from the Director of the School of Music and instructor.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to serve as a vocal coach with leadership from the piano.
  • Knowledge of music repertoire, interpretation of styles, and languages
  • Ability to read and play music at sight (sightreading), assess intonation and musicianship in their own work and that of others, understanding of the voice, choral, instrumental genres
  • Ability to collaborate with students, staff, and faculty

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of pianist/accompanist or relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in music, piano/accompanying, or related field.
  • Experience as an accompanist; collaborative pianist working with singers, operatic/orchestral scores, and choral part reading.
  • Experience as a pianist who collaborates with other performers, musicians and instructor.
  • Experience in working with a variety of student levels and experiences.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University's campuses.
