About the Cosmetic Science Program: The Cosmetic Science program is expanding to include traditional undergraduate students by offering a concentration in Cosmetic Chemistry and minors in Cosmetic Science and Cosmetic Chemistry. The program seeks to 1) provide a perspective at the intersection of races and gender on the science of beauty and beauty practices, 2) advance research related to ethnic hair and skin care, and 3) increase access and opportunities to research and development careers in the beauty industry. The program focuses on the molecular sciences related to product formulation and development, providing a fundamental understanding of the origin, structure, and function of ingredients.Position Summary: The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and the Cosmetic Science Program at Spelman College are inviting applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor beginning in August 2025. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the growth and development of our Cosmetic Science Program. The individual must be an outstanding teacher-scholar dedicated to excellence in the chemical and cosmetic sciences. The individual will be required to:
1. Contribute effectively to curriculum development related to formulation science, claims validation, product development, and other foundational topics related to cosmetic science.
2. Teach undergraduate courses in cosmetic science and in one or more of the traditional areas of chemistry identified by the ACS: Analytical, Biological, Inorganic, Organic, or Physical Chemistry.
3. Establish a competitive and highly productive undergraduate research program in beauty and personal care.
4. Assist with the development of industry partnerships and lead related efforts, i.e., industry-based directed study appropriate to a liberal arts environment.
5. Advise and mentor students.
6. Provide service to the department and college.

Qualifications
Ph.D. in Cosmetic Science, Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Formulation Science, or Material Science with demonstrated research in cosmetics, fragrance, or personal care products.Posting Number: F537P
