The Department of Neuroscience seeks a highly motivated, curious, organized and detailed-oriented person to become a full-time professional Research Technician II in
the Corty laboratory. The Research Technician II will perform day to day laboratory tasks including care and maintenance of the Drosophila (fruit fly) stocks, record keeping, lab organization, and carrying out research projects involving Drosophila in collaboration with the PI and students. Research projects will include building new Drosophila husbandry; tissue dissections; tissue processing for biochemical and/or morphological analysis; imaging of live and fixed tissues by light and electron microscopy; image and data quantification and analysis. Experiments will require troubleshooting techniques and data interpretation in the context of relevant primary literature. The technician is expected to be comfortable working with fruit flies and larvae and motivated to learn the relevant literature and new techniques for their projects. They should be a team player, working with the PI and other lab members towards common goals.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Drosophila husbandry and stock maintenance, including record keeping
- Dissections followed by tissue histology or biochemistry, fixation, staining, and preparation of tissue for light and electron microscopy in collaboration with other lab members and PI
- Confocal and electron microscopy accompanied by data interpretation and analysis in collaboration with other lab members and PI
- Lab management including organization, preparation of stock solutions, inventory management, ordering
Basic knowledge of biology.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic computer literacy.
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow written protocols.
Minimum Qualifications
- HS Diploma
and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of
education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working with lab animals.
- Prior experience performing wet laboratory experiments (tissue dissections, antibody staining, pipetting) and data analysis.
- Prior experience working in a neuroscience lab. Prior experience troubleshooting experimental protocols and equipment.
