The State University of New York at Old Westbury is seeking a Director of Research and Sponsored Programs to oversee and coordinate the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. This is a full-time, twelve (12) month, Management Confidential position requiring an on-campus presence.

The Director will provide planning, regulatory and policy support for and play an integral role in developing and monitoring of new grant submission. The Director will also oversee pre-award "at-risk" grant funding to support progress toward programmatic goals.

Description/Duties:

  • Oversee and direct all pre-award activity related to grants that fall within the College's research and sponsored program portfolio, including all grant proposal development, including comprehensive grant and/or contract submissions in all areas involving Federal, State, Foundation, local agencies and industry sponsors.
  • Oversee grant pre-award "at-risk" funding to support progress toward the sponsored program goals.
  • Ensure fiscal integrity of proposal submissions and pre-award management.
  • Exercise delegated signature authority.
  • Coordinate and deliver proposal submission training for the researchers, staff, and central administration on campus.
  • Develop and distribute metrics for proposal submissions, award setup and success rates to promote transparency.
  • Identify and monitor research award trends and other key indicators.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of research administration experience in an institution of higher education.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of federal and New York State regulations and sponsor policies related to sponsored programs administration.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present information to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage complex budgets.
  • Strong organizational skills and a high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on team-based projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in management, business, education or related field.
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA), Certified Pre-Award Research Administrator (CPRA), or Certified Financial Research Administrator (CFRA).
