The Director of Parent & Family Programs serves as the primary contact for parents and families of students at the University of South Carolina. The director is responsible for providing leadership, oversight, and execution for all planning, partnerships, and logistics to deliver high-quality experiences/interactions with parents and families. This individual is an expert in all things related to providing exceptional customer service and support to thousands of parents and families while their student is a USC student. The director leads the execution and implementation for Family Weekend each fall, which consists of the planning of three major university events, as well as managing the registration system. This individual oversees the content creation and optimization of a communication platform that ensures parents and families are connected and well-informed about the transition to and through college. In addition, the director will oversee the Parent and Family Leadership and Advisory Councils which includes recruitment and selection of members, and engagement opportunities for both groups.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Leadership, oversight, and execution for all planning, partnerships, and logistics required to provide high quality parent and family engagement for USC. 
  • Oversee the planning and execution of the annual Family Weekend (hosting nearly 8,000 participants) and support other special events with significant parent/family attendance.
  • Maintain high quality service to parents and families through oversight of the Parents Assistance Line, parent email account, and Gamecock Family Hub to assist parents with questions and concerns.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to the engagement coordinator who will have responsibilities in planning, implementing, and assessing events, and communications-related engagements and services for parents and families.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the Parent and Family Leadership and Advisory Councils which includes recruitment and selection of members, and engagement opportunities for both groups.

Minimum Qualifications: Requires a bachelor’s degree and 5 or more years of experience. This position has been designated as essential personnel during inclement/hazardous weather and other emergencies. In addition, this position requires a variable work schedule. This position will also assist with emergency communication and be expected to participate in various professional development activities as appropriate.
