Position Description

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of George Lauder, in the Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University starting Jan. 1, 2025. The Lauder Lab aims to use robotic systems to understand the dynamics of aquatic locomotion, and to study the locomotion of live fish as the basis for designing robotic systems.

The opening is for a postdoctoral fellow with expertise in all of the following areas: The design and control of robotic systems, especially those based on fish. The analysis of fish locomotor dynamics including measurement of kinematics and force generation during locomotion. Care and maintenance of live fishes in a laboratory environment.

The postdoc will be based at the Museum of Comparative Zoology Laboratories of Harvard University and have access to all the resources available through the Organismic and Evolutionary Biology Department. The position is available for 1 year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year, and will include a competitive salary and full benefits.

Basic Qualifications

Ph. D. in mechanical engineering awarded prior to Jan. 1, 2025

Additional Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
