Francis Marion University and the Department of Psychology invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Clinical/Counseling Psychology. This position is a standard nine-month, tenure-track academic contract (August-May) with the opportunity to teach additional courses during the summer. Internal funding for travel, research, and summer research stipends are available on a competitive basis.

The successful applicant will teach a combination of undergraduate courses and graduate courses based on the successful applicant’s specific area of specialization. The graduate courses will support the MPCAC-accredited master’s program as well as the new PsyD program that will begin in Fall 2024. They are expected to establish and maintain a program of meaningful research within their area of specialization that is engaging to and inclusive of graduate students. They will also play an active role in training, supervising, and mentoring graduate students.

FMU offers excellent clinical and research facilities at the Richardson Center for the Child, Carter Center for Health Sciences, and the Leatherman Medical Sciences Complex. In addition, the C. Edward Floyd Medical Consortium Building and Jean and Hugh K. Leatherman Behavioral Care Pavilion, both focused on integrated Behavioral Health education and care, are forthcoming in 2025.

The Department of Psychology (comprised of 11 full-time faculty) has approximately 300 undergraduate majors; in addition to approximately 75 graduate students within three accredited/approved programs: Clinical/Counseling, School Psychology, and Applied Behavior Analysis. The PsyD program has a Rural Health & School Psychology focus, and the university recently added an interdisciplinary Autism Studies Major and Minor at the undergraduate level.

Minimum requirements include a PhD or PsyD in Clinical or Counseling psychology (licensed or license-eligible in South Carolina preferred) from a program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). Applicants who are ABD will be considered.
