The Division of Academic Affairs is led by the Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The Division strives to strengthen ECU's culture of academic excellence through innovation, accountability, and collaboration. Academic Affairs includes the Colleges of Allied Health Sciences, Business, Education, Engineering and Technology, Fine Arts and Communication, Health and Human Performance, Nursing, the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Dental Medicine, Honors College, and Graduate School, and the academic faculty and academic programs of the Brody School of Medicine. Administrative units within Academic Affairs include Academic Administration, Global Affairs, Learner Operations, Institutional Planning, Assessment and Research; Office for Equity and Diversity, Office for Faculty Excellence, the Office of Research, and the Office of Innovation and Engagement.
The Office of Innovation and Engagement, led by the Chief Innovation and Engagement Officer, collaborates with departments and colleges/schools across the University, and with ECU's Research Office, to amplify the university's service to and economic impact on North Carolina. The Office also develops partnerships with external entities that benefit the university and helps advance mutually beneficial economic development interests.
The Office of Innovation and Engagement is also charged with working with university and industry stakeholders to develop, implement, manage, evaluate, and continuously improve innovative non-credit educational services and programs that address current and developing needs of local, regional, and state businesses and industries in ways that benefit the University and support workforce development and regional economic growth.
The Office of Innovation and Engagement is supported through various funding sources including state appropriations, grants, contracts, continuing education programs, and philanthropic donors. The team includes 26 full-time staff focused on innovation-led economic development, entrepreneurship, technology transfer, startup incubation, and outreach and engagement partnerships across governmental agencies, business and industry, the military, and nonprofit organizations. The Offices of Community Engagement, Continuing and Professional Education, Licensing and Commercialization, Strategic Military and Industry Partnerships, and the East Carolina Research and Innovation Campuses are part of this team.
Job Duties
The Director of Innovative Workforce Partnerships reports directly to the Chief Innovation and Engagement Officer for East Carolina University. The Director is responsible for developing, planning, and implementing curriculum, programs, policies, and other university engagement related to certification and credentialing for workforce education programs at East Carolina University with a primary focus on engaging industry partners in fast-paced and high workforce demand areas.
The Director of Innovative Workforce Partnerships will work closely with the Offices of Strategic Military and Industry Partnerships and Research Development as well as academic departments to develop and implement fully integrated partnerships with industry, nonprofit, or government stakeholders tied to critical and emerging research, industry, and workforce opportunities. This individual will have an entrepreneurial mindset and be responsible for forming and expanding partnerships to develop new initiatives, create innovative programming, maintain long-term relationships, and build sustained revenue streams.
This position will be responsible for launching and leading an education program that broadly targets workforce needs of the creator industry and other rapidly evolving industries.
The Director of Innovative Workforce Partnerships is responsible for ensuring successful operational management and administrative direction for workforce education partnerships and non-curricular programming that includes long-range strategic planning, program admission, instructional delivery, marketing, and financial and administrative operations. The position will direct and lead the team responsible for these activities as well as manage relationships with vendors, consultants, and partners. The Director of Innovative Workforce Partnerships will analyze the effectiveness of and establish future direction for programs including identifying necessary policies, procedures, and resources to support success.
This position will require coordination with administrative and instructional staff within the University and with industry. The Director of Innovative Workforce Partnerships must be articulate and skilled in working with people from entry-level employees to top-level administrators in educational institutions and companies across industry organizations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning (10%):
Leads strategic planning activities for industry-related microcredential programs in conjunction with the Chief Innovation and Engagement Officer.
Curriculum Development and Implementation (10%):
Responsible for setting direction, goals, implementation strategy, and policies for industry-related microcredential programs and overseeing the development and implementation of relevant curricula.
Industry Consultation (10%):
Consults with industry partners to understand changing workforce needs and trends. Guides course and program assessment processes to maintain up-to-date industry identified certification and credentialing standards for each microcredential.
Operational Planning (10%):
Translates strategic and tactical business plans into operational plans.
Admission Review (10%):
Leads admission review and acceptance of adult learners into credential opportunities following program and university policies.
Program Review (10%):
Regularly reviews retention, progression, and completion of learners in the program(s) according to defined university, department, and program requirements.
Appeal Review (10%):
Reviews and maintains accurate records for all certification and credentialing appeals. Responsible for providing recommendations to the Chief Innovation and Engagement Officer for appeal decision matters and communicating decisions to appellants.
Communications (10%):
Oversees development and implementation of communication and brand strategy for industry related microcredential opportunities.
Budget Administration (10%):
Formulates and administers annual operating budget for program(s) including procurement of materials or services to ensure curriculum delivery.
Policy Compliance (5%):
Ensures all programs and activities comply with relevant university, state, and federal law, regulation, and policy.
Other (5%):
Other duties as assigned

Minimum Education/Experience
Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and eight years of experience in fields related to higher education and/or industry activities.
Experience in working with and communicating with a variety of levels of people in business, industry, and higher education.
Thorough knowledge of and demonstrated experience with strategies, policies, and procedures necessary to deliver high quality career, technical, and/or vocational education.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation: N/A
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Terminal degree and six years of experience in higher education and/or industry including in companies focused on gaming, content creation, music, digital advertising, workforce credentialing and education or related fields.
