The department of political science at Colgate University invites applications for a tenure-stream position in Political Theory at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment will begin in the fall of 2025.

The successful candidate should be able to teach introductory courses covering the classic texts of ancient, medieval, and modern political philosophy and a thematic course on "Politics and Moral Vision," as well as more advanced courses in the candidate's areas of interest. We are especially interested in candidates whose scholarly interests include contemporary political theory, philosophy & public affairs, and/or non-Western political theory.

Candidates will be expected to contribute to university-wide initiatives including the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum and/or one of Colgate's many Institutes and Centers. The teaching load is five courses (or their equivalent) over two semesters.

Please submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching excellence (e.g., statement of teaching philosophy and student evaluations of teaching), a writing sample (30 pages single-spaced or 60 pages double-spaced), and three letters of recommendation. Salary Range or Pay Grade

$92,300 (for ABD candidates) to $96,300 (for candidates with PhD in hand)

The Department of Campus Safety at Colgate University will provide upon request a copy of Colgate's Annual Security and Fire Safety Report. This report includes statistics as reported to the United States Department of Education for the previous three years concerning reported: 1. crimes that occurred on-campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by Colgate University; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus and 2. fires that occurred in student housing facilities. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security and fire safety, such as policies concerning sexual assault, life safety systems, and other related matters.
