Reporting to the associate dean of students for shared business services, the director of disability & access services oversees all aspects of the department, including leading a creative, caring, and student-centered team, spearheading innovative approaches that ensure regulatory compliance for individuals requesting reasonably mandated accommodations, and engaging strategically for the success of a newly developed academic testing center. The department offers services in the realm of student accommodations, academic testing, deaf and hard of hearing services, event accessibility services, and housing and dining accommodation services. The next director will supervise two associate directors, and indirectly supervise eight additional professional staff members. They will manage a budget of approximately $3 million.

Qualifications

A master's degree and at least eight years of relevant experience, including five or more years in a management role, are required. A doctorate is preferred.

  • Must be current on improved service trends and best practices in providing disability and access services in higher education
  • Must be knowledgeable about current regulatory requirements
  • Possess assessment skills to seek a complete understanding of current student needs and overall departmental service satisfaction
  • Ability to promote disability justice and inclusion
  • A flexible leader adaptable to creative and innovative methods of achieving important goals
  • A strategic thinker who can provide a vision for the department's future
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence capabilities to properly mediate complaints between students, families, faculty, and staff
