Position Summary:

This position exists to serve students and families by educating them about financial aid and scholarship opportunities available to ensure that they meet their academic goals. The position advises and counsels students, prospective students and parents concerning available aid and scholarships, the application process and responsible utilization of financial aid funds, ensuring the information is accurate and up to date and provides leadership and support to the counseling staff. The position distributes federal, state, institutional, and private funds to all students who meet program eligibility requirements. The practice of empathy, community building, civility, recognition, and exceptional customer service are key components of this position. The position will advise students, prospective students and parents concerning available scholarships and other forms of aid and the application process.

Job Duties:

60% Client Services (Essential Function)
Counsel students and parents timely regarding the financial aid and the UNC scholarship process.
Explain policy and procedures to internal and external constituents.
Provide accurate information and timely processing of files.
Disseminate accurate, courteous, and timely information.

25% Program Administration (Essential Function)
Resolve individual student issues regarding the timely delivery of aid. Calculate need by applying federal methodology.
Review and authorize aid awards in compliance with regulations and UNC policy.
Review, assess and audit documents.
Support program reconciliation by assisting with review and distribution of funds.
Resolve problems and explain results.

10% Community Development (Essential Function)
Represent the Office of Financial Aid and UNC in various activities both internal and external to the University. These include, but are not limited to, Preview Days, Freshmen and Transfer Student Orientations, high school financial aid presentations, financial aid nights and assignments as requested.

5% Policy Development (Essential Function)
Assist the OFA Leadership in development and implementation of financial aid policy by providing input and feedback to assist in meeting the goals of the office.
Review federal regulatory changes to determine the need for and recommend new departmental policies to remain in compliance.
Create and update procedures for assigned duties as well as other areas as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
A Bachelor's degree is preferred for this position.

Experience:
The preferred employee will have experienced at least one academic year of the financial aid cycle to understand all aspects of the job. At a minimum, this position must display evidence of not only excellent customer service, this position must demonstrate a high level of processing skill with documented attention to detail. Must demonstrate an aptitude for working with numbers, complex systems and regulation e.g. institutional, state and federal regulations.

Certification/Registration/Licensing:
NASFAA certification and experiences preferred.

Ability:
Computer skills are necessary. Good oral and written skills are also a necessity for effective communication. Must also have the ability to address diverse issues with respect to Professional Judgment Appeals.

Special Considerations:
All employees are cross-trained in all office functions to ensure the continuation of high level quality services at all times. Knowledge of other university departments and their regulations are crucial in arriving at solutions for our students. This position must be knowledgeable of all financial assistance programs and their basic requirements.

Full-time employees are eligible to receive tuition waiver benefits, as well as dependents and spouses of UNC Employees who are employed at 0.5 FTE or above are eligible for undergraduate dependent tuition grants of up to 50%. These tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges. Further requirements may exist. Other benefits may be available based on position.

This position is contingent on funding from the Colorado State Legislature, approval by the Board of Trustees, and subject to the policies and regulations of the University of Northern Colorado.
