Job Description

UMKC Conservatory is looking for an experienced Piano Technician to join our team! In this role, you will provide full supervision over the entire piano and harpsichord inventory of the Conservatory. This position is also responsible for recommending the purchase of new equipment and assisting with maintaining the university musical instrument data base.

Duties include:
  • Maintaining the piano inventory of 120+ pianos including tuning, voicing, repairing, action regulation, and refurbishing as needed.  The Conservatory has a large piano shop space that can be used for piano action rebuilding, piano repairs, and belly work.
  • Maintaining relationships with local area piano technicians and recruiting, facilitating, and supervising contracted piano technicians to assist with tuning and shop work.
Occasionally, the piano technician is asked to evaluate pianos that are being considered for donation or purchase. 

This position will report to the Associate Dean of Performance/Facility Operations and will serve as a member of the Conservatory's production team, which meets weekly.

Shift

Full time hours at 40/hr week. The hours are non-traditional with some work being required on the weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications
  • 5-10 years of experience tuning and maintaining pianos.
  • RPT (Registered Piano Technician) certification.
Anticipated Hiring Range

$25.00-$31.00 per hour commensurate with education, experience, and internal equity.
