Job Description

Position Responsibilities:

This position requires the following knowledge and abilities:

  • Strong discipline expertise including, but not limited to, teaching courses in facilities maintenance engineering and HVAC-R.
  • Teach courses at a variety of times and/or modalities, such as days, face-to-face in the classroom, hybrid formats, online (synchronous and asynchronous).
  • Design and teach courses in the approved curriculum using teaching methods that support the success of diverse students.
  • Assess (and document) student learning and academic achievement at classroom, department/program, and college levels.
  • Participate regularly in department activities (e.g., department meetings, Century College Open House, etc.) as well as department responsibilities such as budgets, schedules, articulation agreements, program reviews, program assessment, curricula development, external partnerships, and staffing.
  • Available and willing to be actively engaged in college community and activities around student success, such as student activities, clubs, and advising.
  • Participate in service to the college and the greater community, such as college-wide committees and external partnerships.
  • Participate in achieving annual college, division, and departmental priorities.
  • Continually develop expertise in the field and in teaching (i.e., professional development activities and continuing education).

Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirement

  • Associate degree in a building utilities mechanic program or a building facilities technology program.

Occupational Requirement

  • Four full-time (or equivalent) years of verified related paid work experience as a building utilities mechanic.

Recency Requirement

  • One year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field. The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.

Preferred Qualification 

  • Experience in or demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and equity-focused working and learning environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, teach, and serve in an institution with a culturally, ethnically/racially, economically, and linguistically diverse workforce and student population.
  • Teaching experience at the community/technical college level or demonstrated commitment to the mission, vision, and values of community and technical colleges.
  • Expertise and experience in multiple modalities, including course design and teaching face-to-face in the classroom, hybrid, and online (synchronous and asynchronous) classes.
  • Experience incorporating technology into course delivery.
  • Evidence of active and experiential learning strategies.
  • Experience in assessment of student learning that includes a variety of summative and formative strategies.
  • Evidence of active and continuous professional development.
