Western Governors University (WGU) is looking for individuals with a background in the areas listed below to participate as Subject Matter Experts for our Human Resources projects:

Subject Matter Experts provide valuable real-world knowledge and experience to develop the courses we offer our students.

This is a part-time/project-based position, where you would work with WGU as an Independent Contractor.

Subject Matter Experts must meet the following criteria:

Functions of Human Resource Management

07/29/24 08/02/24

  • Master’s in HRM or related field (business administration, leadership, organizational development, or similar field of study) is required
  • At least 3 – 5 years of experience working in HR, ideally with a focus as an HR Generalist, Business Partner, HR Manager, or Director/CHRO or above role is required
  • SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR certified and current on certification (certification has not lapsed) is preferred
  • Higher education experience as a faculty member or in course design or curriculum development is preferred
  • SMEs for this course must be familiar with a broad range of HR topics including (but not limited to) HR’s role in organizations; planning an HR career; foundational recruiting/selection, compensation and benefits, and training and development content; employment law; performance management; labor relations; HRIS; strategic leadership and risk management

Employment and Labor Law

  • Master’s in HRM or related field (business administration, leadership, organizational development, or similar field of study) is required
  • At least 3 – 5 years of experience working in HR, ideally with a focus as an HR Generalist, Business Partner, HR Manager, or Director/CHRO or above role is required
  • SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR certified and current on certification (certification has not lapsed) is preferred
  • Higher education experience as a faculty member or in course design or curriculum development is preferred
  • SMEs for this course must be familiar with a broad range of HR topics including (but not limited to) employment and labor laws.

HR Compliance and Employee Relations

  • Master’s in HRM or related field (business administration, leadership, organizational development, or similar field of study) is required
  • At least 3 – 5 years of experience working in HR, ideally with a focus as an HR Generalist, Business Partner, HR Manager, or Director/CHRO or above role is required
  • SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR certified and current on certification (certification has not lapsed) is preferred
  • Higher education experience as a faculty member or in course design or curriculum development is preferred
  • SMEs for this course must be familiar with a broad range of HR topics including (but not limited to) HR’s role in organizations; HR compliance and employee relations.

Scope of work:

In the Course Congruence Check, stakeholders look at course curriculum and assessments and provide feedback on alignment. They perform a side-by-side comparison, answering one simple question: "Does the course provide adequate information for students to be successful on each task prompt?" Reviewers answer "yes" or "no" for each prompt on the assessment. They also provide feedback on whether they feel that each rubric aspect appropriately measures candidate competence of the corresponding task prompt. Once the review is complete, the QA Analyst will compile the data, deliver the results to the college, and request a meeting to discuss results and create an action plan for any modifications that are needed. A quality assurance check comparing all formative, summative, and culminating assessments with the curriculum to ensure alignment or congruency between the assessment and the content. Review will use some or all of the following: Word Documents, Google Documents, Excel spreadsheets. Review may involve a full review of course content.

10 hours

Compensation:

$50 per hour

No meetings required

This is an independent contractor position that is not eligible for other compensation and benefits.
