The Department of History, Humanities, and Modern Languages invites applications for a Part-time Instructor position in Spanish. This is a continuous posting, not an announcement for a specific vacancy.  We are building the pool of qualified applicants for possible future part-time teaching vacancies in the Spanish Program. Responsibilities
  • Teach face-to-face Spanish courses in general language, literature, and culture (SPAN 1010-2020).
  • Collaboratively partner with other instructors for lesson planning and assessment when multiple sections of a course are offered.
  • Hold office hour and meet with students enrolled in assigned courses.
  • Attend and/or complete required trainings by the University (usually assigned in your first semester teaching, then annually thereafter), as well as completing any additional trainings, as needed and determined by the department.
  • Abide by all applicable executive orders, federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations, as well as University policies and procedures relating to part-time instructors and general campus employment.
Qualifications
  • At least a Master's Degree in a related field required. PhD in Spanish preferred.
  • Native or near-native fluency in Spanish required (equivalent to an Oral Proficiency. Interview test rating of Advanced-High or higher).
  • Teaching experience in higher education preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively teach students using a variety of instructional methods and apply best practices in the discipline.
  • Ability to communicate with diverse groups.
  • Ability to use student-centered and active-learning instructional strategies and techniques.
  • Ability to motivate and fairly evaluate student progress and achievement.

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:  Part-time instructor position, paid $900 per credit and will be able to teach up to 2 lower division courses (SPAN 1010-2020) per semester.  Part-time instructors are governed by University Policies 631 and 638.
