Director of Student Activities and Leadership Development

Provides leadership and serves as primary administrator for campus-wide programs and activities that promote social interaction, community development and healthy social/educational entertainment for all Ringling College students. Directs comprehensive leadership education opportunities for all levels of student leaders. Works with all members of the College community to create a living-learning environment that promotes active student engagement and development focused on the whole student. Takes an intercultural approach in developing events and programs, raising awareness and building community focused on diversity. As a member of the Student Life Staff, works to educate and assist all Ringling College students in the development of their full potential.


Student Activities

• Provide leadership and administration for a wide range of student activities and programs that promote student growth, involvement in learning and engagement in campus life.

• Develop and provide oversight for the Student Life programming aspects of the Summer Pre-College program.

• Work cooperatively with students to ensure student involvement in all levels of program planning, implementation and evaluation.

• Advise the College Activity Board (CAB).

• Provide supervisory oversight and management for the equipment in the Goldstein Hall lobby and its policies and procedures.

• Represent the College’s interest with outside agencies and entertainers through conversations and contract negotiations.

• Takes an intercultural approach in developing events and programs, raising awareness and building community focused on diversity and inclusion. 

• Work with outside vendors and contractors regarding student activities and involvement.

• Work collaboratively with Student Life team to promote an engaging campus culture.

• Serve as a member of the Student Life Staff attending meetings.

• Oversee training, usage, and supervision of the campus events app.

• Maintain a campus activities calendar.

• Complete semester and annual programming report.

Leadership Education

• Develop a comprehensive leadership education program to build the skills of students at all leadership levels.

• Work with students to optimize the opportunities for student growth outside the classroom.

• Work cooperatively with faculty and staff to ensure that leadership programs promote the mission, values and learning outcomes of the College.

• Coordinate Ringling College Student Leadership trainings.

• Assist with the coordination of Ringling College student participation in area, regional and national college leadership conferences as budget allows.

• Select, train, supervise and evaluate the Orientation Leaders.

Administrative Functions

• Coordinate the annual event schedule for Student Activities.

• Oversee student clubs and organizations, working with student leaders and advisors.

• Maintain student activities/leadership development section of campus internet/intranet site.

• Hire, train, supervise and evaluate student workers.

• Develop and monitor budgets for Student Activities and office operations.

• Conduct regular program assessment and evaluation.

• Review and approve all student programs and fundraiser requests.

College Service

• Assist with the coordination of events for the annual Family Weekend program, Open Houses, Accepted Students Day and other all-College events.

• Assist with all Orientation programs for new students.

• Participate in College meetings, Admission functions and other College activities as needed.

• Actively support Mission of Ringling College and Student Life.

• This position requires a significant amount of evening and weekend work given prime time periods for student events.


• Assist the Associate Dean of Students for Student Development with operations of major Student Life events.

• Serves as Programming Team Chair in the absence of the Associate Dean of Students for Student Development.


• Strong communication and organization skills.

• Ability to relate effectively to a wide diversity of students, especially understanding the culture of artists and designers.

• Demonstrated commitment to college student learning.

• Ability to work collaboratively.

• Strong programming and leadership education experience.



• Master’s degree in College Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education Administration, Counseling or related field; or a bachelor’s degree with three or more years equivalent experience in an educational setting.

• Experience working within a College/University setting in Student Life, preferably in a creative environment.


• Experience overseeing or using student engagement software.

• Minimum of two years post Master's work experience in Student Activities, Leadership Development or related area within higher education.
