Position Summary

The Austin Peay State University (APSU) Human Resources office is seeking to fill a full-time position as a Classification and Compensation Analyst to facilitate compensation and classification related activities in support of university goals and objectives. This position is responsible for classification of positions, compensation analysis and recommendations, which includes allocating positions to appropriate classes, job levels and salary ranges, providing consultative and advisory services to university community, and maintaining APSU's Classification and Compensation Program(s).

Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 9,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 166,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conducts initial review, job analysis, and job evaluation of new, vacant and filled positions, including requests for reclassification, equity adjustments, in-grade adjustments, and salary range updates and confirmations.
  • Processes educational increases, promotional increases and extra compensation. This includes direct oversight over the entire educational increase process.
  • Develops written reports of findings for standard roles and-determines classification and compensation based upon research conducted and the best available balance of evidence.
  • Maintains data on inversion, compression, and equity; formulates recommendations regarding the development and updating of salary structures, FLSA exemptions, job revisions, and organizational structures as needed.
  • Implement pay increases in accordance with the University's compensation plan and the scenarios submitted by the Staff and Faculty Allocation Committee.
  • Conducts costing and provides recommendations
  • Completes salary data requests including reporting salary data to the College and University Professional Association (CUPA).
  • Reviews and approves standard studies independently
  • May be responsible for assisting with benefits processing, especially during peak times such as the beginning of the academic year and open enrollment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of human resources practices, principles and applicable federal/state laws/regulations governing employment.
  • Computer skills, including word processing, HRIS, Excel spreadsheet and database skills. Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Must be detail oriented and have the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to perform research, draw conclusions, and offer effective recommendations.
  • Ability to work with a variety of different audiences and provide excellent customer service.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business, or a closely related field.
  • Three years of general human resources experience, at least two related to compensation/classification.
  • Advanced experience in Excel with proven ability to analyze complex data sets.
  • Experience providing consultative and advisory services to partners outside of HR on HR matters with the goal of problem solving and creating positive solutions in a customer focused environment.
  • Experience drawing conclusions, making decisions and effectively communicating them.
  • Strong analytical and data manipulation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and written/ verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of current compensation practices and trends.
  • Strong customer service skills.
Preferred
* PHR, SHRM-CP or CCP.

* Experience with HRIS systems.
* Experience in higher education.
* Experience with merit/market-based compensation systems.
