Located in the northwest corner of the United States, Peninsula College is nestled in the foothills of the Olympic Mountains. The main campus in Port Angeles, Washington, overlooks the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the nearby city of Victoria, British Columbia, and has easy access to the Pacific Ocean, Olympic National Park, and Seattle. Port Angeles is two hours from Seattle and a one-hour ferry ride to Victoria, Canada. The College is honored to serve six sovereign American Indian nations in the region: Jamestown S’Klallam, Lower Elwha Klallam, Quileute, Makah, Hoh, and Port Gamble S’Klallam.

The College is honored to have strong relationships with these six federally recognized Tribes in the College’s service district. The College is home to Longhouse of Learning. It is the first Longhouse in the nation to be built on a community College campus. The College offers transferable Indigenous language courses in Klallam/S’Klallam, Makah and Quileute and Hoh languages. Instructional programs include a Tribal Homeland Security & Emergency Management certificate and an Integrated Indigenous Studies transfer pathway. Peninsula College is recruiting for a full-time Behavioral Healthcare instructor to teach courses in the Behavioral Healthcare Bachelor’s degree program and to advise Behavioral Healthcare students. Via a supplemental contract, the position may also include working with the associate dean of baccalaureate programs to assist with program development and to coordinate the Behavioral Healthcare program. The college is seeking applications from innovative teachers who are committed to approaching the classroom from a social justice perspective and by engaging with critical pedagogies. Primary teaching duties will be required courses for the Behavioral Healthcare Bachelor’s degree program, including Overview of Behavioral Health Disorders, Behavioral Health Systems of Care, Social and Cultural Diversity in Behavioral Health, Counseling Ethics and Scope of Practice, Care Coordination, and General Intervention Techniques Including Motivational Interviewing, with the opportunity to develop other courses that align with areas of expertise.

  • Teach assigned behavioral healthcare courses in accordance with course descriptions and learning outcomes outlined in the syllabi
  • Develop, assess, improve, and deliver curriculum
  • Gather, organize and/or create course materials that facilitate learning
  • Utilize appropriate technology to facilitate teaching and learning in the lab, classroom and online
  • Through the course syllabus, orient students at the beginning of each course to the objectives of the course, learning outcomes, assessment methods, basis of grading, attendance requirements, the nature of assignments and class requirements
  • Obtain and maintain sufficient learning assessment data in order to provide a valid and reasonable basis for assignment of grades
  • Provide records and data needed to comply with federal and state requirements and regional accreditation standards
  • Maintain regularly scheduled and posted office hours for assisting students
  • Participate in student academic advising
  • Serve on College committees, which include ad hoc committees, strategic College priority committees, and standing committees as defined in the procedure for Board Policy
  • Serve on faculty hiring committees as assigned
  • Participate in scheduled division meetings and academic employee meetings
  • Create and regularly update a Professional Development Plan that ensures continuing education and ongoing currency in one’s instructional area and current pedagogies
  • Participate in annual planning and program review
  • Hold office hours and be available to advise and support students
  • Ensure ongoing review and assessment of course, program, and institutional student learning outcomes

Program Coordination

  • Work closely with industry partners to provide up to date instruction and align with state and national certification competencies with emphasis on the particular skills relevant to local employment.
  • Coordinate the behavioral health advisory committee to assure program relevance, positive business relationships and incumbent worker opportunities and employment for graduates.
  • Collaborate with high school programs, Dual Credit, and partners to create recruiting pathways and credit accrual.
  • Participate in the community and with logical partners in creating recruiting pipelines and program visibility.
  • Assist and support the seeking of grants and their administration for program support and growth.
  • Manage purchasing, inventory, and donations in line with budgets and fiscal practices of the college.

Duties of the position requiring knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Ability to establish partnerships with local Behavioral health Providers to arrange practicums.
  • Provide information and advice to students, staff, program participants and/or the public regarding the content, policies and activities in the behavioral healthcare program
  • Promote the program on campus with outside organizers
  • Attend meetings and/or conferences as program representative.
  • Monitor program activities in relation to established program goals; within established program parameters, determine variance from program standards.
  • Plan, coordinate and hold advising appointments throughout the year.
  • Experience working with computers and technology to deliver or support instruction.
  • Proven strong communication skills, written and oral.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including evenings.
  • The characteristics of team player, autonomy, timeliness in task performance, initiative, and a desire to learn.
  • Have a demonstrated understanding of multiple, critical perspectives that consider the marginalization of communities including indigenous, Latinx, Black, Asian, LGBTQ, and experience with inclusive pedagogical and assessment practices.
  • Have demonstrated excellence as a teacher-scholar with demonstrated effective teaching and scholarship.

Professional Experience:

  • 5 years experience providing direct behavioral health services.
  • Teaching experience in a formal or workplace setting preferred.
  • Online teaching experience a plus.

Required physical abilities :

  • Work will typically be performed in a classroom setting and may require standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time.

Required work schedule and work environment:

  • Classroom, lab, and office settings

Required education or certificates:

  • Master's in behavioral health, Social work, Psychology, counseling or a related field from an accredited institution (Ph.D. preferred)
  • Applicable certificates in the Behavioral Healthcare field (preferred)

Employment Terms

  • A full-time tenure-track position/program coordinator beginning the 2024 Fall quarter.
  • The College has a negotiated faculty salary schedule in which placement on the schedule is determined by education level and experience.
  • Coordination work, if assigned, will be an additional contract.

Employment Terms

  • A full-time tenure-track position beginning the 2024 Fall quarter; this is a nine-month academic year appointment.
  • The College has a negotiated faculty salary schedule in which placement on the schedule is determined by education level and experience. Initial annual salary placement is anticipated to be $70,206.00 - $97,889.00 for a standard 175-day contract, depending on qualifications.
  • A standard 175-day contract is written annually for the period of September to June. Late contracts will be prorated on the basis of work-days remaining in the contract year.
