Position Highlights

University of Arizona's (UA) Global Office and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) have entered into an agreement with Hebei University of Technology (HEBUT) in Tianjin, China to develop a joint College - Arizona College of Technology at Hebei University. This College consists of three academic programs that will offer B.S. Degrees in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Applied Physics at HEBUT.

This UA Global Microcampus program will be delivered in-person by UA faculty "on the ground" at HEBUT in Tianjin, China. At this time, we are seeking a new faculty member for the Materials Science and Engineering program to join our growing team at the UA Microcampus at HEBUT. Applicants for this position should have expertise in the fundamentals of materials science and engineering and be able to teach undergraduate level laboratory and lecture courses. Courses include: Introduction to Computational Methods, Materials Thermodynamics, Transport Phenomena and Kinetics, Mechanical Behavior, Physical Properties, Physical Metallurgy, Ceramics, etc. The program will lead to a joint UA-HEBUT degree, including a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from UA.

In addition to being a faculty member of the UA, the Global Professor will also be a faculty member of UA's partner university, HEBUT. As such, the jobholder will be bound by the rules and regulations of both institutions and countries. In addition, the job holder must be able to qualify for, and obtain, a Chinese visa which will be sponsored by the partner university. Faculty at HEBUT, will teach students in the UA-HEBUT Materials Science and Engineering undergraduate dual degree program. The UA-HEBUT program allows students to earn their BS from both universities in four years, entirely in residence at HEBUT. HEBUT is a key provincial University and the first "Institute of Technology" in China that specializes in engineering and technology. Projected hire date is January 2024, with adjustments depending on circumstances.

Duties & Responsibilities

one of the top universities in China, HEBUT is well equipped with
state-of-the-art laboratories and classrooms for teaching and research. It is
located in Tianjin, a coastal metropolis of over 15 million people, located
90 miles south of the capital city of Beijing.

Global Professors will join a rapidly growing team of faculty at the UA-HEBUT
Microcampus. In addition to the MSE faculty, the Microcampus will also house
UA Global Professors from Applied Physics (AP) and Mechanical Engineering
(ME). A Dean of the UA-HEBUT joint college will also be based at the UA-HEBUT
Microcampus in Tianjin, China. Although the focus of this position is on
instruction, outstanding opportunities exist for developing research programs
through undergraduate senior design projects in collaboration with UA or
HEBUT faculty.

  • Collaborate with
    UA and HEBUT faculty to develop a program that leverages existing
    strengths on both campuses.
  • Teach ca. 15-18
    units of materials science and engineering coursework to HEBUT-based
    undergraduate students per year.
  • Assist the UA
    Department of Materials Science and Engineering in hiring the remaining
    HEBUT-based team of Microcampus faculty.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering or related
  • Prior experience in STEM instruction, particularly in
    foundational MSE courses and laboratory courses.
  • Selected candidate must provide education
    credentials during the offer discussions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the design, development, and teaching of quality courses at the college/university level.
