The Division of Dental Hygiene prepares students to become competent dental hygienists who actively participate in the improvement of the public's oral health.  The UMKC program graduated its first class in 1954 and is the only program in Missouri to award a Baccalaureate degree in dental hygiene.  Our graduates can function effectively as oral health care professionals working with individuals in all ages and stages of life in a constantly changing society.  Graduates are prepared to use problem-solving skills to plan, implement and evaluate dental hygiene care of diverse populations while working in a variety of settings - including clinical practice, education, public health, hospital dental programs and public-school dental programs.

Job Description

UMKC is seeking applications for a 12-month full-time faculty member in the Division of Dental Hygiene to begin August 1, 2024. The position is a 100% benefit eligible, full time, ranked non-tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Clinical Professor or Associate Clinical Professor. Qualified candidates should exhibit a commitment to clinical and didactic teaching, scholarship, as well as service to the profession and the community. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, classroom, laboratory, and clinical teaching in the clinical entry level program and service on School of Dentistry Committees.

The UMKC School of Dentistry sponsors and partners with other organizations to host several unique programs to provide opportunities for underrepresented populaces and economically disadvantaged students who may be interested in the field of dentistry. Applicants that have experience and/or interest in those programs are encouraged to include their activities and experience in their application materials.


*          Candidates are required to have a minimum of a Master's Degree in Dental Hygiene or be actively pursuing a Master's Degree in Dental Hygiene

*          Eligibility for a Missouri dental hygiene license is require

  •          Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience

Preferred Qualifications:

*          Master's Degree in Dental Hygiene is preferre

  •          Experience in teaching is preferred

Anticipated Hiring Range

Rank and salary are commensurate with education and experience.

This is a 12-month, benefit-eligible, 40-hours per week (1.0 FTE) ranked, non-tenure track academic position which is eligible for future promotion. Our academic workloads and schedule promote a positive work/life balance.
