Job Description Summary

This position provides instruction in Aviation Department courses and advising for students pursuing the Associate of Applied Science Aviation Management degree and/or Career Pilot Technology degree. Instructional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching Aviation courses (day and evening) and developing daily lesson plans with sensitivity to cultural diversity in the classroom. For FAR Part 141 regulated courses, instructional responsibilities include keeping FAA-required documentation of instruction provided in student files. Advising responsibilities include working with students to plan and approve course registrations to ensure timely course completion to meet students’ graduation goals. This position requires excellent classroom presentation, communication, and organizational skills.


1. Maintains mastery of subject matter.

2. Develops and/or teaches courses for which the appropriate credential is held.

3. Teaches in various formats, various locations, and via various delivery methods;

4. Advises students.

5. Adheres to policies, procedures, expectations, and practices of the College, the department, and discipline.

6. Communicates clearly with students, other faculty, and staff.

7. Contributes to a safe and secure campus environment.

8. Enforces Code of Classroom Conduct and Code of Student Conduct.

9. Assists with program reviews, program accreditation, and SACSCOC accreditation as appropriate.

10. Attends meetings and events and actively participates on committees and taskforces.

11. Attends the annual commencement ceremony.

12. Upholds the College Vision, Mission, Values, and RISE statement.

13. Supports diversity in all aspects.

14. Establishes or upholds learning outcomes that are relevant and meaningful.

15. Evaluates student progress in a fair, consistent, and timely manner.

16. Develops, prepares, and/or delivers all levels of curriculum courses.

17. Completes required professional development annually.

18. Supports Aviation Department outreach and marketing activities.

19. Participates in professional organizations that exist to promote advancement of aviation professions.

20. Maintains up-to-date FAA credentials required by FAR Part 141 curriculum courses.

21. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements (Applicant must meet all of the minimum requirements)

  1. Associate’s degree;
  2. Teaching experience as either a flight or ground instructor;
  3. Experience with FAR Part 141 regulations;
  4. Experience with Microsoft Office applications, e.g., Word, PowerPoint;
  5. Airplane category Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and Certified Flight Instructor – Instrument (CFI-I); OR Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI) and Instrument Ground Instructor (IGI) with an airplane category pilot certificate.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree.

2. Experience teaching at a community college.

3. Proficiency in a foreign language such as Spanish, an East Slavic language, and/or American Sign Language.

4. Teaching experience in a FAR Part 141 school.

  2. Transcripts outside of the United States, must be accompanied by an evaluation completed by a NACES recognized agency and received by Human Resources at least two weeks prior to the first day of work.

Total Compensation

Your total compensation goes beyond this maximum salary. Your A-B Tech benefits represent nearly 30% of your total compensation.The total compensation for this position includes an 25.02% employer contribution to a defined pension plan, contributions towards medical and dental policies and fully funded life insurance / accidental death & dismemberment policy.
