Job Description

Great Basin College (GBC) is recruiting for a Grounds Maintenance Worker 5 for the Buildings and Grounds Department. This is a working supervisory position and under general supervision the employee will oversee and provide direction on the landscape and ground maintenance activities such as mowing, irrigating, pruning, fertilizing. This includes operating hand power tools and light mechanized equipment such as power mowers and forklifts; operating light, medium and heavy equipment such as pickup trucks, tractors, sanders, plows and loaders; and other duties as assigned. Oversee the grounds maintenance equipment and ensure it is in good working order. Coordinate the set up and removal of equipment including tables, chairs, etc. for special events.

Required Qualifications

  • This position requires three (3) years of experience providing grounds maintenance service including landscape, garden, or greenhouse maintenance; OR

  • One (1) year of experience as a Grounds Maintenance Worker IV in Nevada State service; OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above

Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.

A valid Class "C" Nevada driver's license or higher operator's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Position requires work outdoors, heavy lifting and working in inclement weather including snow removal.

This position is designated as Essential Personnel. In the event of a campus emergency, special event, closure to maintain campus safety or building operations, this position may be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with supervisory experience and basic computer knowledge are encouraged to apply.

Schedule

The typical schedule is Monday through Friday from 5:00 am to 1:30 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.
