Position Description

The Department of Art & Visual Culture invites applications for a part-time Instructor in the Department of Art & Visual Culture to teach an undergraduate foundations course 'SAVC 253 User Experience Design: Applications' to Interactive Media minors and non-minors beginning August 2024. Instructor needs to be able to teach in-person.

Applicants should demonstrate a strong background in UX/UI Design that includes an understanding of visual language principles, accessibility design, information architecture, wireframing and prototyping, designing responsive interfaces for web and mobile, the user centered design process, and working with industry standard tools (Figma), . Applicants should have an active professional studio practice (that
includes exhibitions, residencies/fellowships, and/or publications) or equivalent professional work experience in the space of user experience design.
  • The ideal candidate should be prepared to introduce students to an inclusive collection of contemporary artist practices and professional work that leverages the user centered design process and UX design principles.
  • The ideal candidate should demonstrate a capacity to encourage students to explore, prototype, experiment, and iterate as well as read, write, research, and critique.
  • The ideal candidate is familiar with makerspace/innovation lab environments.

The Department of Art & Visual Culture is part of the Division of the Arts that includes the departments of Dance Performance & Choreography, Music, Theater & Performance, and the Spelman College Innovation Lab.
