Reporting to and working in close collaboration with the VP for Advancement/Alumni Relations (VP), the Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for the direction, management, execution, and evaluation of all of Prescott College’s comprehensive development program, events, and activities, including our major gifts and foundation grants programs.

Primary work will be systematically identifying, cultivating, soliciting, acknowledging and stewarding individual, corporate and foundation donors. Travel required.


In partnership with the VP and Board of Directors, the Major Gifts Officer is responsible for designing, managing, and executing all aspects of PC’s development efforts.


  • Major Gifts
    • Research major donor prospects, create plan for outreach, conduct discovery and shepherd new major donor prospects into a relationship with PC
    • Create a stewardship plan for each current major donor and lead the implementation of those plans
    • Prepare Board and VP for gift asks by scheduling, briefing and drafting proposals.
    • Work with Board and the VP to create small fundraising events with major prospects and the President
    • Maintain contact reports in donor database and leverage technology to track and report on contacts, proposals, gifts, pledges, etc.
    • Work with the Administrative Assistant to record, process, and acknowledge gifts made to the organization
    • Meet with alumni donors regularly to meet fundraising goals.
  • Foundation Grants
    • Develop strategy and direction for PC’s foundation grant program.
    • Research funder prospects, keep track of grant cycles, and coordinate drafting of grant proposals
    • Manage grant reporting
    • Build and maintain relationships with Grantmakers and develop strategies for increasing the likelihood of awards
  • Other
    • Craft and oversee PC’s direct mail solicitation strategy.
    • Collaborate with marketing team.
    • Collaborate with Board and staff to plan and execute virtual and in-person events that engage and inform the alumni community and major donors.
    • Collaborate with the VP for a robust stewardship plan.
    • Prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive reports.
    • Monitor and maintain activities within approved budget guidelines.
    • Engage in long-range planning and goal-setting.
    • Attend relevant board/committee meetings as appropriate.
    • Help instill a culture of philanthropy within PC.
    • Develop a deep understanding of the PC community
    • Other duties as assigned by the VP


The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications:

· At least 5 years of direct experience in non-profit fundraising, preferably in higher education fundraising.

· A demonstrated ability to meet fundraising goals through direct asks, events, grants, and other strategies.

· Experience with fundraising databases and fundraising technologies.

· Experience leveraging technology in your workflow (Zoom, cloud-based collaboration, email marketing, spreadsheets, video conferencing, cloud-based project management, etc.).

· Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook) and social media platforms.

· Creative thinker and problem solver.

· Responsive, tactful, and professional and possessing a relationship, donor-centric mindset.

· Outgoing and excited to build relationships with donors and connect our mission to their philanthropic interests.

· Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and time-management skills.

· Strong verbal and written communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail.

· Personal qualities of integrity and reliability.

· Ability to work independently, as well as within a team.

· A strong interest in assisting PC in our mission.

· Passionate about the outdoors and the culture of a small college.
