The faculty members will be part of the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC (FBRI - https://fbri.vtc.vt.edu/), one of Virginia Tech's three thematic research institutes (https://www.research.vt.edu/about/institutes.html), as well as Carilion Clinic's extensive clinical enterprise.

Applicant eligibility requirements include: an earned medical degree (and preferably a Ph.D.); postdoctoral research experience, research fellowship or a combined clinical and research fellowship; a record of significant accomplishment of biomedical research innovation and productivity as demonstrated through high quality impactful publications in leading scientific and/or medical journals; and a record of funding. Candidates considered for positions at the associate or full professor rank are expected to have substantial active extramural research funding, particularly from the NIH or other federal agencies, foundations and/or industry.

The selected candidate(s) will join a highly successful research group of eleven teams of innovative basic and translational researchers at the FBRI (the Center for Vascular and Heart Research - https://fbri.vtc.vt.edu/research/research-centers/center-for-heart.html), who have considerable NIH and American Heart Association support and a leading clinical enterprise (the Cardiovascular institute - https://www.carilionclinic.org/specialties/cvi) at Carilion Clinic, all in an integrated state-of-the-art health sciences campus. The faculty position(s) will include a tenured or tenure track appointment in either the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM - https://medicine.vtc.vt.edu/), which has a research-intensive medical education curriculum, and/or another college at Virginia Tech.

The position will include both research and clinical duties with a primary emphasis of effort commitment to research. The focus of cardiovascular research is open and may utilize a basic, translational and/or clinical approach, using tools of molecular or genetic science, cell biology, pharmacology, physiology/biophysics, computational modeling, AI and/or epidemiology and population health science. Specific areas of interest for growth include: i) cardio-oncology; ii) arrhythmogenesis; and iii) ischemic heart disease with either genetic or environmental etiology.

Successful candidates will be expected to maintain a high-quality, extramurally-funded research program, and either maintain or develop high-profile national/global recognition as leaders in their respective fields of cardiovascular science and medicine. They will also be expected to lead a sub-specialty clinic in their areas of specialization and contribute to the training/mentoring of graduate and medical students as well as residents and fellows. A highly competitive salary, new state of the art space, major core instrumentation and start-up package will be provided and for early career faculty, considerable career mentorship and support will be provided.

Applications should be submitted to posting #529131 including full curriculum vitae, detailed statement of research accomplishments and plans, teaching/mentoring philosophy, clinical training and service, and a statement outlining commitment to diversity and inclusion. Please include the names and contact information of at least three references and have them directly upload their letters of support, which should be relevant to the academic rank of interest.
