Anchored at the University of Oklahoma, Startup OU is an entrepreneurship hub that fosters and champions the next generation of entrepreneurs and emerging talent. Our organization serves as an entry point into the University of Oklahoma, state, and regional startup ecosystems; a connection point for startup founders and university resources and talent; and a launch point for university-affiliated and community startups into the state and regional economies.

The Startup OU Venture Fellow is a key member of the Startup OU team, working with the Startup OU Director to execute outreach, training, and mentoring initiatives. The Venture Fellow will be responsible for a broad spectrum of tasks and projects supporting programs designed to assist aspiring and early-stage innovators develop and launch new ventures. The Venture Fellow will primarily support the implementation and coordination of student-facing programs, including training, volunteer, internship, and mentorship initiatives. The Venture Fellow will also perform select administrative functions, including data collection and management of program participants, program logistics, and other similar activities.

Primary Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate training and mentorship initiatives, including coordinating mentorship sessions, training workshops, and other similar activities

  • Facilitate volunteer and internship initiatives, including coordinating volunteer and internship placements with internal and external partners, evaluating and tracking placement performance, and assisting in recruiting activities

  • Assist in provision of advising services to emerging ventures in ideation, early-stage development, venture building, launch, capitalization, and other similar processes

  • Conduct data collection and tracking of program participants for stakeholder reporting
  • Meet with stakeholders to discuss programs status and goals
  • Perform various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position

Required Education: Bachelors degree

Equivalent Substitution: Will accept 48 months of equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.

Skills:

  • Project management

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office, with a strong knowledge of Word and PowerPoint
  • Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail
  • Proficient in composing or presenting oral and written communication
  • Strong networking skills and able to build relationships with other relevant stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently with modest supervision
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple projects, often with shifting priorities and requiring collaboration across many departments
  • Highly receptive to feedback and coaching
  • Demonstrate curiosity, creativity, and a drive for excellence

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to engage in repetitive motion, lift, bend, stoop, and carry.
  • Standard Office Environment.

Department Preferences:

  • Experience working with startup companies, universities, or entrepreneurial support organizations
