The School of Science and Engineering (SSE) was established through UMKC Forward, a university initiative that called for the joining of all the computing, science, mathematics and engineering programs into a single academic unit. This bold move by the university creates multidisciplinary learning, academics, inspired collaborative research and civic outreach for the benefit of all students, faculty, alumni and friends. The Division of Biological and Biomedical Systems grants BS, BA, MA, MS, and PhD degrees.

The Division of Biological and Biomedical Systems is instrumental to the University of Missouri System's NextGen Data Science and Analytics Innovation Center (dSAIC), which supports university research across the state and plays a critical role in the region's health, business, and workforce development. dSAIC is based at UMKC and operates in partnership with the University of Missouri-Columbia.  For more information: 

Job Description

The Division of Biological and Biomedical Systems invites applications for a full-time non-tenure-track faculty position (open rank) of Biology/Physiology to teach physiology to undergraduate and graduate students.

Courses to be taught may include a subset of the following:  Principles of Physiology, Physiology Lab, Mammalian Physiology, Pathophysiology, Oral Physiology, and Physiology for Pharmacy students. 

The primary attributes we seek in candidates are the potential or demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring. Experience supporting students from underrepresented backgrounds is a plus.

Full-time, 9-month, benefit-eligible, ranked non-tenure track faculty position. Opportunity for ranked promotion is provided. Our academic schedules and workload provides for a positive work/life balance.


*        Applicants must possess a Ph.D., (or M.D., D.D.S., or D.V.M.) by the start date.

*        Experienced MS or MA will also be considered with significant physiology teaching.

*        Postdoctoral experience is encouraged

  •        All applicants should have some experience with teaching physiology.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary is commensurate with faculty rank, credentials and experience.
