Job Description Summary

Mississippi University for Women seeks a one-year Visiting Instructor or Visiting Assistant Professor in English who is qualified to teach English Composition I, English Composition II, and Survey of Early or Late English Literature. Our composition sequence focuses on developing college-level writing and critical thinking, culminating in a research project in Comp II. The four course load will be a mixture of online and face-to-face classes. Face-to-face and online teaching experience is preferred. A qualified candidate may also be considered for an upper-level class in the Spring 2025 semester.The English major includes five concentrations: Literature, African American Literature, Creative Writing, Professional Writing, and English with Teacher Certification. Essential Duties

To teach English Composition I, English Composition II, and Survey of Early English Literature or Survey of Late English Literature, both online and face to face. To meet with students for at least 6 office hours per week and to be available to communicate with students regularly. To attend department meetings, convocation, and other university-wide meetings as needed. To keep accurate attendance, provide syllabi by the first class day, grade assignments in a timely manner, to submit midterm and final grades on time, and to communicate with the department chair and other faculty as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

MA in English or related field with a background in English LiteraturePhD in English or related field preferred for Visiting Assistant ProfessorExperience teaching Composition or Literature highly preferred.
