Chair for the Undergraduate Programs, Assistant Professor

The School of Professional and Graduate Studies (SPGS) at Baker University's Overland Park Campus invites applications for a Chair for the SPGS Undergraduate Programs, Assistant Professor Position. This non-remote position entails the responsibility of providing leadership to attain the utmost level of excellence in teaching and service activities within the undergraduate programs. This includes conducting program reviews, recruiting, developing, and evaluating faculty members, as well as overseeing curriculum development, enhancement, assessment, and revision. Additionally, the role involves actively contributing to teaching within the program. The Chair serves as mentor to faculty colleagues and as collaborator with other administrative officers, interprets SPGS and University policy, advocates for the undergraduate programming from a perspective of the best overall interests of SPGS, leads faculty in important processes that shape the curriculum, and effectively articulates program missions to internal and external constituencies. The Chair will support Baker University with time and service to the larger mission and vision.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach 27 credit hours over the course of the fiscal year; made up of twelve credit hours teaching; fifteen release hours as determined by the Dean.
  • Continuously examine offerings and curriculum, review assessment data yearly, and periodically (no greater than every five years) work with the Dean on program reviews.
  • Responsible for working with the Dean of SPGS to establish a plan for engaging with external constituencies, such as Community Colleges or other partners.
  • When appropriate, the Chair may manage external grants, special programs and development projects that benefit program development.
  • Responsible for communicating with undergraduate students in order to facilitate timely and open communication and student service.
  • Collaborate with the Faculty Services team for the scheduling of classes (including class cancellations) and instructor assignments. The Chair reviews and provides feedback on instructor peer reviews, and oversees the Professors of Practice.
  • Informing the instructors of the perspectives and actions of the Dean and other administrators that might affect the program. This position will serve on committees as part of the university’s Governance process.

Job Requirements:

  • Must have a master's degree in business or appropriate professional studies in adult learning. Doctorate preferred.
  • Must be able to work full-time on-ground at the Overland Park campus.
  • Must have a minimum of three years of significant work experience.
  • Must have a minimum of three years of teaching experience in adult nontraditional programs.
  • Must have a minimum of three years of practice in faculty hiring/development/evaluation, on-ground/online curriculum development and assessment.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
