Job Description

The Administrative Assistant for Student Success Initiatives (SSI) provides administrative and operational support to the Associate Vice Provost for Student Success Initiatives. This position facilitates all administrative, event planning, and operational processes of the unit. Provides prompt, accurate, and appropriate responses with a prominent level of customer service to students, parents, and other internal and external customers seeking information and support in a high volume setting as needed. Maintains current knowledge of university policies related to undergraduate students. Serve as Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) and Emergency Action Plan (EAP) coordinator. Complete special projects.

Required Qualifications

Previous administrative support experience in a professional or academic office setting. Strong computer skills such as word processing, with emphasis on efficiency, accuracy, and organization. Excellent customer service and communications skills and ability to work comfortably with a diverse population. Ability to work independently with little supervision, prioritize work, and perform multiple functions simultaneously. Must be able to work within a team-based environment. Ability to professionally manage stressful, complex situations in relation to parent and student needs. Must be able to maintain security and confidentiality of records and information.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent training and/or related experience. Prior administrative experience working at Virginia Tech or in a higher education environment. Knowledge and familiarity with university policies and procedures. Demonstrated experience with computer applications (i.e., calendar management, spreadsheets, BANNER, and word processing). Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Experience working with Microsoft forms.
