Position Announcement

Special Collections & Archives is home to historical records of Utah Tech University, Washington County, and the Arizona Strip. Our collections include rare and unique books, newspapers, papers, photographic records, audio-visual documentation, microform, oral histories, and electronic records.

Paraprofessionals in Special Collections & Archives play a critical role in engaging the community, providing customer service, and preserving materials for future generations through detail-oriented organization.

  • Welcomes visitors and researchers, ensures compliance with policies, and provides reading room supervision in Special Collections & Archives
  • Provides reference services and research assistance for users
  • Maintains order in the reading room and closed stacks
  • Tracks statistics of research visits and use of materials
  • Organizes archival donations according to procedures, including forms, accession, and creating online finding aids.
  • Supervises student workers / interns' projects
  • May include weekend and evening coverage as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and support-oriented skills in working with students, faculty, staff, and the public
  • Excellent computer skills including databases and spreadsheets
  • Strong organizational skills with an attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and work in a team environment
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent gallery, library, archives, or museum experience
  • Experience with digital audio/visual programs
  • The ability to learn new programs easily
  • Knowledge of local history and/or geography
  • Ability to lift and move books, boxes, or other materials (up to 50 pounds)
Supplemental Information

CONTRACT: Part-time hourly position (approximately 20-29 hours per week).  Hourly rate of $15.00/hour.  Free access to Employee Assistance Program thru Blomquist-Hale and HPC Fitness Center/Recreation facilities; no other benefits. Desired start date of  March 2024.
