Assistant/Associate Professor of Communication

Full-time, Tenure Track

Start: July 1, 2024

This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position to teach undergraduate Communication courses on campus within the School of Liberal Arts and Education.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

  • Teach courses in communication according to graduate training and experience. Classes may include Business Communication, Perspectives in Communication, and Group & Organizational Communication. A normal teaching load is 24 credits each year.
  • Advise students in the Communication program.
  • Stay abreast of scholarly developments in specific and relevant fields as well as current teaching methodologies, curriculum development, and assessment.
  • Contribute to the field of communication and/or the profession of college-level teaching.
  • Support the mission, goals and objectives of Crown College
  • Engage in general faculty responsibilities, including but not limited to, participation in department and faculty meetings, care of students, committee assignments, and at least 10 hours of scheduled office hours per week to be available to students.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated experience and expertise teachingcommunication courses at the college level.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an enthusiasm for working with students pursuing higher education. 
  • Established ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Demonstrated excellence in spoken, written, and electronic communication skills.
  • Ability to integrate collegiate teaching and the Christian faith.
  • Experience evaluating students’ work and reporting results promptly.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s level degree in communication or a related field.
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness.
  • Professional work experience in the communication field.
  • Experience using computer technology in the teaching/learning process.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to the above minimum qualifications):

  • A PhD in communication.
  • 5+ years of full-time teaching experience, especially in Christian higher education.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with standards and assessments.
  • Experience with advising.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with skills and experience to become chair of the department.
