Assistant/Associate Professor Media Arts: Digital Arts

Full-time, Tenure Track

Start: July 1, 2024

On-Campus

This is a full-time, tenure-track, on-campus faculty position to teach undergraduate digital arts courses on campus within the School of Liberal Arts and Education.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

  • Teach courses in digital arts according to graduate training and experience. Classes may include Principles of Design, Digital Design, Advanced Graphic Design, Media & Culture, and Art Appreciation. A normal teaching load is 24 credits each year.
  • Advise students in the Media Arts program.
  • Stay abreast of scholarly developments in specific and relevant fields as well as current teaching methodologies, curriculum development, and assessment.
  • Contribute to the field of Media Arts and/or the profession of college-level teaching.
  • Support the mission, goals and objectives of Crown College.
  • Engage in general faculty responsibilities, including but not limited to, participation in department and faculty meetings, care of students, committee assignments, and at least 10 hours of scheduled office hours per week to be available to students.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated experience and expertise teaching digital arts courses at the college level.
  • Knowledge and experience utilizing current technologies and software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an enthusiasm for working with students pursuing higher education. 
  • Established ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Demonstrated excellence in spoken, written and electronic communication skills.
  • Ability to integrate collegiate teaching and the Christian faith.
  • Experience evaluating students’ work and reporting results promptly.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MFA degree/terminal degree in Digital Arts, Graphic Design, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness.
  • Professional experience in the field through previous work and/or consulting experience; digital arts/graphic design experience preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant software applications.
  • Experience using computer technology in the teaching/learning process.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to the above minimum qualifications):

  • A PhD in Media Arts: Digital Arts.
  • 5+ years of full-time teaching experience, especially in Christian higher education.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with standards and assessments. 
  • Experience with advising.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with skills and experience to become chair of the department.
