Assistant Professor - Environmental Organic Chemistry

The Department of Natural Sciences (DNS) at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track assistant professor position from chemists specializing in organic contaminants in the environment. DNS houses the biology, chemistry, biochemistry, and environmental science undergraduate programs and graduate programs in chemistry, marine-estuarine and environmental sciences, and toxicology creating an outstanding collaborative environment. We seek candidates who have the capacity to teach to a diverse student population and prepare students broadly for futures in industry, government, and graduate and professional schools. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate organic chemistry in support of our ACS-certified chemistry program and courses in the candidate’s specific areas of expertise. The successful candidate will create a strong, collaborative research program that complements research across the School of Agriculture and Natural Sciences (SANS) and that strengthens UMES’s focus on issues such as water and soil pollution, microplastics in the environment, and the toxicology of enviromental pollutants.

Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Chemistry from an accredited institution with experience teaching and/or mentoring undergraduates and implementing research projects.

Preferred Qualifications: PhD in Organic Chemistry with a focus on the lifecycle of organic molecules within the environment, experience teaching at the university or college level, and demonstrated success or potential for pursuing external funding.
