Job Description

This is a 12 month "A" Contract, Non-tenure track position. Under the direction of the Vice President for Student and Academic Affairs, the Director of Continuing Education is responsible for the development and operation of the College's Continuing Education program. This includes all noncredit courses and program, community-based education, and customized training for business and industry. This position also coordinates the college's summer school session, which offers for credit courses. The Director serves as a member of the College's leadership team, participates in the College's strategic planning, provides oversight and management of assessment in the department, and works closely with both academic and administrative areas of the College.

This position is located at the main campus in Elko, NV and requires occasional travel, including overnight stays to various locations within the state of Nevada.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.

  • Two years of experience in educational administration.

  • Experience in developing continuing education courses and programs.

  • Superb oral and written communication skills with an entrepreneurial spirit.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated experience managing fiscal resources.

  • Experience working with a diverse/multicultural student body and/or workforce

  • Prior training and/or teaching experience preferred .

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the planning, development, and implementation of programs to support GBC's continuing education department.

  • Works with business and industry to assess workforce needs and develop customized contract training.

  • Coordinates the college's summer school session, which offers for credit courses.

  • Prepares and implements a comprehensive marketing plan for continuing education.

  • Oversees curriculum design, development and implementation of noncredit courses and programs.

  • Administer Kid's College (a summer program for K-12 students).

  • Administer and market driver's education classes and CDL training program.

  • Manages planning, scheduling, budgeting, and operational efficiency of the department.

  • Maintains effective communication with administration, faculty and staff.

  • Recruits, supervises, and evaluates faculty and personnel in continuing education.

  • Support, implement and promote compliance with institutional equity plans in all aspects of employment and education; encourage cultural and ethnic diversity in staffing, curriculum and programs.

  • Supervises and directs required reporting to state and federal agencies.

  • Ensures compliance with the Nevada System of Higher Education guidelines and other state and federal regulations.

  • Collaborates with credit faculty to identify new continuing education courses and programs.

  • Maintains confidentiality of information within the course of business.

  • Participate in college wide committees as appropriate.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Travel

The position may require driving to other GBC campuses, with or without reasonable accommodation as per the Americans with Disabilities Act, with possible overnight stays to coordinate students and programs throughout the service area. There must be a commitment to the GBC mission to serve rural Nevada. The successful candidate will participate in several state-wide or national meetings each year that require overnight travel.

Compensation Grade

Administrative Faculty - D

The budgeted salary range for this position is $76,000 - $86,000

Salary is based on relatable education and experience, internal equity and budgets.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees

Great Basin College is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Dependents of faculty have unlimited credits, but in order to be eligible children must be unmarried and under the age of 24 and must receive at least 50% of their financial support from the employee and/or employee's spouse or domestic partner.

Transcripts

Newly hired faculty must assure that their official transcripts are sent by the degree granting institution(s) to Great Basin College Human Resources Office within 30 days from the effective date of employment. Regionally accredited institutions must have awarded academic degrees.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Any expense related to the evaluation will be the responsibility of the candidate.
