Job Description

The Advising Coordinator is responsible for advising undergraduate students in the College of Education. This includes reviewing all applicant materials prior to admission to the College of Education programs. The Advising Coordinator reports to the Assistant Dean of the College and is responsible for implementing the enrollment, recruitment and retention efforts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Academic Student Advising: Provide advising to current, prospective, transfer, and degree-holding students including general academic advising, prerequisite and admission requirements to College of Education programs, and advising of petition and appeals processes both within the college and university-wide. Advising extends to knowledge and referral to faculty, staff, and administrators within the college and campus-wide.
  • Admission Process: Design, produce, and distribute information materials to inform and educate prospective and current students as to the requirements for application and admission into the College of Education Programs. Coordinate college recruitment events and participate in university recruitment events.
  • Transcript Evaluation: Evaluate transcripts of prospective degree-holding students for compliance with requirements for the Teacher Education Program.
  • College Advisor Representative: Attend meetings with the Executive Director of Office of Academic Advising and other college advising coordinators to maintain communication and have open dialog concerning advising issues as well as policies and procedures as they relate to specific colleges and to the student population at large.
  • Student Records and Accreditation: Maintain all appropriate records and databases for university and college data. Write requested annual reports on advising activities for accreditation and continuous improvement purposes.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two years of experience in higher education academic advising or student-related services
  • Two years of experience coordinating, managing, and overseeing programs in a higher education setting
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational management and human relation skills
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Solid working knowledge of student development, recruitment, academic advising, and student services within a higher education setting
  • Solid working knowledge of databases used for tracking student information
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Education, Counseling, Student Development, Administration, Student Affairs or related areas
Additional Information

Salary will be between $48,000 - $58,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience.
