Job Description:

BASIC PURPOSE:  The Student Engagement Coordinator assists with the overall supervision and operation of the Campus Lounge/Pub as well as serve as the Late-night Programming Staff member on campus. The Student Engagement Coordinator seeks to foster a campus community that is conducive to all aspects of student development including academic, social, spiritual, cultural, and physical experiences. The Student Engagement Coordinator assists in developing a Student Engagement and Leadership Office's operation which is reflective of the University Mission as a Catholic, Liberal Arts institution.

This live-in position responds to incidents and concerns after hours; the scope of response is primarily for Student Engagement and Leadership needs, but also is available for greater Student Affairs concerns as well.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Campus Pub and Lounge

  • Serves as the on-site University representative when the pub is serving alcohol.
  • Responsible for oversight of facility, including rentals.
  • Develops a comprehensive calendar of events to be held in the pub including Thursday night trivia, 21+ events and weekday and weekend programming.
  • Maintains the Pub atmosphere.
  • Works collaboratively with Dining Services to create thematic events and special events with local microbreweries and other food and beverage ideas.

Advising

  • Advisor of the annual University yearbook, including selection of editorial boards, and collaboration with faculty advisors.
  • Serves as the co- advisor to the student newspaper, including the selection and training of editorial staff, writing staff, and oversight of the budget.
  • Serve as the Sophomore Class Advisor assisting with their events and fundraising.
  • Recruit, Hire and Train OSEAL Student Sound Techs to assist with weekend programming and Audio/Visual needs.
  • Supervise OSEAL student workers and event staff including their payroll, scheduling.
  • Assist with staffing the major events including Family Weekend, Winter Fest, Spring Weekend, Spring Concert, Duck Day, Midnight breakfast, and the Tree Lighting.

Late Night and Weekend Programming

  • Recruit, advise and support student groups to host campus events, including late night events on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
  • Coordinate with clubs and organizations to select appropriate dates for programs.
  • Create schedule of events for all late night and weekend programming.
  • Review event requests; provide funding advisement, room reservations, advertising support, etc.
  • Manage the Late-Night Programming budget.
  • Distribute a calendar each semester to advisors or other members of the community.
  • Attend late night events with student groups as needed.

Orientation and Summer Programming

  • Serve as on-campus administration for June's overnight program.
  • Assist the Dean of Student Engagement with Orientation schedules and training.
  • Oversee any summer programs, virtually or in-person, that occur for both incoming students as well as upperclassmen.

Other Responsibilities

  • Support and assist the programming efforts of other offices including Residential Life, Campus Ministry, Health Services, Counseling Services, the Athletic Department, and the Cross-Cultural Center.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and monthly Advisor meetings.
  • Attend professional staff training retreats and in-service training session to enhance professional skills.
  • Pursue professional development activities to stay abreast of developments and innovations in the field of Student Activities and maintain membership in any of the following: NACA, NASPA, ACPA.
  • Serve as a member of the Student Affairs administrative team during major weekends and campus events.
  • Assist with University special events such as, but not limited to, the Matriculation ceremony, Family Weekend, Homecoming, Senior Week, Commencement, and the Crown and Shield Award Dinner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Must be willing to contribute actively to the mission of the University;
  • Bachelor's Degree;
  • Program planning and execution experience;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to work evenings/late nights and weekends;
  • Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, and word processing software.

Additional Information:

SCOPE:

  • This is a 12-month, live-on position.
  • Regularly serves on a variety of campus committees, and other ad-hoc committees as assigned. Maintains active membership in a variety of professional organizations to stay abreast developments and innovations in the field of student activities.
  • Interacts regularly with a variety of student committees and groups, students, staff, administrators, parents, agents, vendors, and performers.
  • Work includes evening/late nights and weekends.
  • Compensation: In addition to annual salary, an on-campus furnished apartment is provided.
