Urban Education Research Center in UMKC's School of Education, Social Work and Psychological Sciences

The Urban Education Research Center (UERC) seeks an administrative assistant to provide administrative support across a variety of projects.  At the direction of the UERC leadership team, the administrative assistant will assist with financial administration that supports the center's work.   The successful applicant will have strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to communicate effectively with UERC team members.

The mission of the UERC is to create reliable, usable knowledge about education in urban areas with the goal of promoting excellent schooling and improving the lives, opportunities and communities of urban residents in the Greater Kansas City community and the nation. The center accomplishes this mission through collaborative, data-rich strategies including technical assistance and consultation and rigorous research and evaluation using a range of methodological tools.

Job Description


Performs a variety of independent, specialized business support duties for the assigned department or office. Executes, documents and reports on business and fiscal operations. Examples of work performed will be: 
  • Financial administration (assist with distribution of salary expenses to project budgets, budget monitoring and financial reporting) .
  • Preparation and management of invoices.
  • Preparation of professional service agreements and consulting agreements.
  • Scheduling team meetings.
  • Assistance with report preparation (e.g. annual reports).
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications


An Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Familiarity with UMKC shared services
  • Preference given to candidates with experience working with financial data and reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a team environment 
Anticipated Hiring Range


$16.32 - $26.11 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.

 This is a part-time (50% FTE) non-benefit eligible position. This position will average 20 hours per week.
