The Department of Design at Utah Tech University (UT) in St. George, Utah, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of UX Design / Program Director, with a specialization in User Experience, to begin Fall Semester 2024. This role will have teaching responsibility and will have main oversight of managing our new master's degree in UX Design. Responsibilities
  • A standard nine-month teaching load is expected, as outlined in University Policy 635 (Download PDF reader), plus an additional two (2) month summer workload is also expected in order to facilitate the master's program.
  • Participate in Entrepreneurial innovation and problem solving with students. 
  • Work with Department Chair, Dean, and other faculty in the Design department regarding curriculum and program development. 
  • Direct the graduate program for the Master of UX Design within the Design department and collaborate with the Software Engineering master's degree program. This includes recruiting, marketing, advising, teaching and other duties related to the successful deployment and management of both master's degrees.
  • Perform defined campus-wide duties, including holding office hours, attendance at department and division meetings, service on committees and/or outreach programs. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Master of Fine Arts (MFA) or MFA in Design or a related field with at least five (5) years of UX Design industry experience required.
  • Demonstrated abilities and employment experience in User Experience (UX) Design and User Interface (UI) Development is preferred.
  • Successful teaching experience at the college or university level is preferred (especially at graduate level).
  • Extensive knowledge of UX design principles, user research, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing.
  • Experience with software engineering and development processes is highly desirable, given the collaboration between UX Designers and Developers.
  • Ability to develop innovative curriculum and appropriate course content and teach under a variety of teaching situations including day, night, and online courses.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and mentoring skills and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with other faculty, staff, and students and contribute to a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with students, staff, and colleagues orally and in writing.

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (11-month) tenure-track faculty position. Faculty service begins July 1, 2024. Annual salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
