POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a 10 Month Full-time, grant funded, managerial position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Note: This position is in the "NL" category of employment (non-fixed work week) and have no claim or entitlement to time off or cash compensation for hours worked beyond their normal schedule. However, unusual requirements for additional work time by these employees may be compensated by allowing roughly comparable amounts of time off, provided prior approval is given by the supervisor and Unit Head.

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of the STEM Center & TRIO STEM Programs, recruits, trains and supervises participants and staff. Responsibilities include record keeping, monitoring participation of McNair participants; communication with RCNJ campus offices involved in providing student services; organization of workshops, presentations, seminars, tutoring; management of logistics in program planning; assisting the McNair Advisor with participant advising; collection of data for evaluation purposes; maintenance of participant records and progress reports. Will maintain social media accounts and alumni communication. Please be advised that this position is grant-funded and is contingent upon the availability of grant funding.

Starting Salary: $55,000.00 - 60,000.00

Examples of Duties

DUTIES:

  • Organize and direct all McNair programming with the Director including, but not limited to, instructional support, student activities, tutoring, academic workshops, and leadership/mentorship opportunities, internships and research opportunities with staff and in collaboration with other College units as appropriate.
  • Monitoring the academic progress of participants.
  • Recruitment of participants.
  • Training of program staff.
  • Planning, coordinating, and implementing cultural and social activities.
  • Developing and administering evaluation instruments on all aspects of the project activities.
  • Partner with Student Success units for workshops, programs and activities;
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administration to ensure that the needs of McNair students are known and addressed;
  • Supervise part-time professional and peer staff.
  • Facilitate positive relationships with graduate programs and other units on campus.
  • Advise participants monthly
  • Assign research mentorships and summer internships.
  • Establish and maintain a system for the tracking of alumni.
  • Responsible for assisting the Director with the submission of the annual report to the funding agency in a timely manner, and other reports as required by the State and/or College.
  • Responsible for publicizing the McNair program on campus.
  • Assist the director in applying for additional funding as appropriate to supplement US Department of Education funding
  • Support participants in the applications process for graduate school, including preparation of the statement of purpose and applying for fellowships and grants.
  • Serve on appropriate College committees and participate in relevant College initiatives.
  • Attend on campus and off-campus meetings at the request of the Director.
  • Must be willing to travel for the purpose of touring college campuses and graduate programs.
  • Attend day trips and overnight trips with program participants
  • Drive RCNJ college vehicles to transport participants when needed
  • Use of a personal vehicle will be required for travel;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Excellent supervisory, leadership, oral and written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Wide knowledge of the principles and techniques essential to performance of the specific responsibilities assigned.
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of college policies and procedures.
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of basic budget principles and techniques.
  • Ability to understand, analyze, interpret and apply established law, regulations, procedures, precedents and guidelines.
  • Ability to organize assigned work, analyze problems and develop appropriate work methods.
  • Ability to advise and counsel students and others concerning college programs, activities and services.
  • Knowledge of regulations established by law and the US Department of Education as regards the McNair program.
  • Applicants who have overcome obstacles similar to those of participants have an advantage.
Typical Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

Education

  • Master's with a concentration in higher education, STEM discipline, or related area preferred, some doctoral experience preferred (Ex. ABD or Doctoral candidate).
Experience
  • Three years of professional experience in an institution of higher education, education, or another field that is directly related to the functions of the position or equivalency as determined by the appointing authority.
  • Demonstrated experience in project and program management.
  • Preferred experience working with first-generation and limited-income students and their families.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Research experience preferred.
