ABOUT THE POSITION

This is a full-time, Unclassified, AFT position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm. Occasional remote, evening, and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Note: This position is in the "NL" category of employment (non-fixed work week) and has no claim or entitlement to time off or cash compensation for hours worked beyond the normal schedule. However, unusual requirements for additional work time by these employees may be compensated by allowing roughly comparable amounts of time off, provided prior approval is given by the supervisor and Unit Head.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Institutional Research (IR), the Research Specialist position is responsible for independently performing professional research-related functions that support the Office of Institutional Research and foster a campus-wide culture of data-informed decision making. The incumbent will perform a range of research-related functions to include survey reporting and compliance, basic data analysis and compilation, and report design and writing.

In addition to research-related functions, the incumbent will also perform administrative functions in support of OIR to include web and record management, workflow processes, budgeting, purchasing, office/equipment management, and light reception.

Starting Salary: $57,573.92 - $71,979.08

Examples of Duties

RESEARCH-RELATED DUTIES

  • Assist with the administration of internal and external surveys from inception to conclusion by taking the lead on ensuring timely institutional participation; satisfactory submission of the needed data; distribution, promotion and awareness building; compliance and the design of post-survey reports.
  • Review and perform data entry for all external surveys such as IPEDS, Military Friendly, US News and World Report, Petersons Guides, College Board, etc. in accordance with established requirements and project timetables.
  • Prepare data tables, charts and graphs for research publications, reports, and web-based content; assist with data coding (qualitative and quantitative).
  • Compile, review, design and/or coordinate the publication of reports and forms such as the Annual Institutional Profile, Fact Book, Common Data Set, Fast Facts, Faculty Evaluation, and Program Reviews.
  • Address ad hoc data requests, as appropriate, by quickly securing the information/data requested and/or by guiding requestors to the appropriate resources.
  • Provide access to and/or develop and implement training, seminars, and workshops for college constituents.
  • Maintain and update the Office of Institutional Research web presence with an eye toward ensuring content is timely, compelling, and accessible to a diverse and discerning audience.
  • Represent the College at conferences, meetings, trainings, seminars and to the public as required.
  • Represent the Office of Institutional Research through service on committees, task forces, and in support of College-wide special events.

ADMINISTRATIVE-RELATED DUTIES

  • In consultation with the Director, supervise the fiscal affairs of the Office to include preparing and recommending the budget; reviewing, processing, and monitoring expenditures; arranging travel, etc.
  • In consultation with the Director, monitor, advance, and determine progress on OIR projects.
  • Author documented workplans for annual/biannual projects.
  • Oversee the maintenance, processing, and destruction of files in accordance with College and state regulations.
  • Coordinate and track project timetables, meetings, trainings, and appointments, as directed.
  • Serve as liaison to IT for securing, onboarding, maintaining, and accessing software and hardware for OIR.
  • Supervise subordinate staff including clerical, part-time and/or student workers, as needed.
Typical Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree supplemented by a Master's degree in a field related to the position to be filled or equivalency.
NOTE: The minimum education experience standards for positions classified under this class title will vary depending upon the requirements of the specific position to be filled. In each case, these minimums will be determined at the discretion of the appointing authority.

Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute required experience on a year-for-year basis (30 credit hours is considered one year of college.)

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES:

  • Two years professional experience in an institution of higher education or in education, higher education, or other related field
  • Team player and willing to work cooperatively and effectively with a diverse team to ensure timely completion of projects and goals of the Office.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and in managing data and spreadsheets.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects at once.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable presenting information and delivering training or workshops.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Wordpress or similar web design tool
  • Knowledge of data visualization software
  • Ability to copy edit and design reports
