The University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix is currently seeking applicants for a Data Architect III to develop, design, implement, and maintain an Enterprise College level Data Warehouse. As the Data Architect III, you will be responsible for managing the College's Data and Analytics platforms to meet our data and information demands. This position will partner closely with their peers of Business Analysts, Project Managers, Programmers and Application Architects to research and delivery optimum solutions. Duties & Responsibilities
Data Warehouse Design and Modeling
- Build enterprise standard data models for analytics, reporting and application usage.
- Develop comprehensive data warehouse architecture, including data models, schemas, ETL/ELT processes and SQL objects (tables, views, stored procedures, functions).
- Research, apply and refine best practices for data warehouse architectures, methods and features.
- Work with users and business analyst to translate functional requirements into technical data warehouse solutions in a Cloud Computing environment.
- Ensure scalability, performance, and data integrity within the data warehouse.
Development and integration
- Design and implement ETL/ELT processes to integrate a variety of high-volume data stores from different sources into the data warehouse, capture changes and maintain current and historical information.
- Perform analysis and provide performance tuning recommendations for data structures, SQL code and ETL design to improve performance.
- Adapt ETL/ELT processes to accommodate changes in source systems and new business user requirements.
- Develop real-time/bulk data pipelines from a variety of sources (Streaming data, API's, data warehouse, messages, images, and videos).
- Actively apply best practices within DataOps (Version Control, P.R. Based Development, Schema Change Control, CI/CD, Deployment Automation, Test Automation, Shift left on Security, Loosely Coupled Architectures, Monitoring, Proactive Notifications).
- Utilize modern cloud technologies, follow established design patterns, and employ best practices from DevOps/DataOps to produce enterprise quality production SQL code with minimal errors.
- Troubleshoot and resolve data integration issues promptly.
Data governance and security
- Establish data governance policies and procedures to ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance with regulations (e.g., FERPA HIPAA).
- Implement robust security measures to safeguard sensitive data within the data warehouse.
- Collaborate with the team to manage access controls, design application interfaces and data encryption.
- Ensures the data warehouse environment meets or exceeds all UA Security Policies.
Performance Optimization
- Continuously monitor and fine-tune the data warehouse's performance.
Identify and address bottlenecks, optimizing SQL queries, and tuning database configurations.
Implement best practices for indexing, partitioning, and caching.Data governance and security - Establish data governance policies and procedures to ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance with regulations (e.g., FERPA HIPAA).
- Implement robust security measures to safeguard sensitive data within the data warehouse.
- Collaborate with the team to manage access controls, design application interfaces and data encryption.
- Ensures the data warehouse environment meets or exceeds all UA Security Policies.
Documentation and training
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of data warehouse architecture, ETL/ELT processes, and data flow.
- Provide training and support to data analysts, data engineers, and other stakeholders on data warehouse usage and best practices.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in data warehousing.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
* Master's Degree in related field of study
* 5 + years Data Warehouse, Data Lake, Data Analytics or Database Modeling experience required
* 5+ years' experience using SQL, Amazon Redshift or Snowflake.
* 5+ years' experience in Business Intelligence applications like Tableau, or PowerBI.
* 2+ years of experience in relational and dimensional data modeling required.
* AWS experience.
* Experience working in higher education, EdTech or other education-related organization(s).
* Working knowledge of Agile, Scrum, and Kanban.
* Ability to combine data from multiple sources when needed for analysis.
* Working knowledge of Software Engineering and Object Orient Programming Principles.
