Type:
Full-Time

The Desert Research Institute (DRI) is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in atmospheric modeling with emphasis in urban emissions and aerosol-cloud interaction within the Division of Atmospheric Science (DAS). The incumbent will contribute to a multi-institute funded project that focuses on testing a comprehensive urban modeling system that enables studying the interaction among urban components and processes, such as urbanization, green and blue infrastructure, air pollutants and aerosols, and their effects on the surface radiation budget and moist processes aloft. Candidates should have a background preferably in WRF-Chem, SMOKE, and using global, national, and regional emissions inventories. We are particularly interested in candidates with a combination of modeling experience capable of performing analyses using conventional, special observations and remote sensing tools for model evaluation purposes and interested in the coupling between urban pollution and weather. Position will include the opportunity to develop deeper connection in this research area, while initiating and collaborating proposal development opportunities. DRI postdocs are eligible to serve as PIs on research grants, and the incumbent will be encouraged to collaborate with colleagues across DRI and at other institutions. The position will be based at DRI’s Reno, NV campus.

Required Experience:

  • Ph.D. from an accredited institution in a relevant field completed within the past 5 years.
  • Strong scientific background and practical experience in physical atmospheric numerical modeling.
  • Experience with data quality assurance/quality control methods; experience in analyzing large observation datasets and model outputs to interpret atmospheric processes.
  • Strong programming skills in Matlab, IDL, Python C/C++, or FORTRAN.
  • Practical experience in running software on a Linux platform and high-performance computing environments.
  • Detailed knowledge of one or more modelling software products such as WRF-Chem, CMAQ, CAMx, SMOKE, MOVES.
