Job Description

Provide financial and operational support for departmental business and grant sponsored projects; manage and coordinate the formulation, development of sponsored proposals and allocation of project budgets; provide timely and accurate financial reporting to project sponsor; reconcile monthly accounting statements and maintain accounting files; develop new project cost proposals; oversee project activities to ensure compliance with federal, university and departmental regulations; responsible for departmental accounting assignments, purchasing, and travel arrangements for departmental and project needs. Provide backup of departmental human resource needs including recruitment, onboarding, funding, etc.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business management or related area or equivalent experience; demonstrated working knowledge of general accepted accounting principles; considerable accounting experience in a professional level accounting position; high degree of proficiency in the development and use of Microsoft Excel application; excellent interpersonal and communications skills; ability to research, investigate, analyze and evaluate data; and ability to work effectively on a team and with people from different cultural backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional level experience in governmental or fund accounting; demonstrated working knowledge of budgeting, including, preparation, tracking and reporting of budgets; demonstrated interest in international affairs/culture/development. Knowledge of university systems such as HokieMart, Banner, Chrome River, and Summit and familiarity with the Office of Sponsored Programs.
