Position Highlights
The University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) is a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer through patient care, research, and education. The UACC is seeking candidates for a Health Educator, Sr.
The Senior Health Educator will work in partnership with the Community Outreach Manager to develop, conduct, and evaluate community-based cancer education programs, initiatives, and activities. The Senior Health Educator will possess expertise in community engagement, health education methodologies, and program evaluation. They will also be capable of engaging the community, health care providers, and researchers in cancer outreach designed to improve cancer outcomes among underrepresented or diverse participants (e.g., Hispanic, Native American populations).

Duties & Responsibilities
Development and curating of cancer information for education
and training materials:
- Researches and compiles relevant cancer information to
inform and guide the development of relevant education, training and promotion
resources and materials. - Co-develops and revises training curriculum for outreach
staff to ensure information is updated based on appropriate cancer guidelines
and relevant research. - Assists in preparing content for outreach related
information statements, press releases and relevant reports that describe and
publicize COE services and information. - Contributes to the development, review and delivery of
cancer educational materials including cancer presentations, informational
handouts and digital content. - Helps ensures appropriate culturally tailoring and messaging
for or underrepresented or diverse participants, including language translations, visuals,
and message framing. - Assists in preparing content for outreach related
information statements, press releases and relevant reports that describe and
publicize COE services and information. - Reviews community resource materials to ensure subject
matter is relevant and aligned with UACC and COE cancer information messaging.
Planning, delivery and support of cancer education programming and initiatives:
- Develops, coordinates, and facilitates community events and activities for cancer education/awareness and health promotion
- Supports the outreach staff with events and programing, including attending events for additional support, helping coordinate logistics, and facilitating post event evaluations
- Work with community partners and help coordinate COE presence at relevant community events
- Recruit, train, supervise and delegate assignments to volunteers and student workers who assist with the activities.
- May require attending community events in the evening and/or weekends.
- May require overnight travel across the state
Support the training and operations of outreach staff:
- Assist Outreach Manager in onboarding new outreach staff, which may include facilitating training/onboarding sessions.
- Assists in coordinating ongoing training education workshops for outreach staff to ensure the staff is knowledgeable of latest cancer information and community resources.
- Takes minutes for outreach team meetings and assists in following up on delegated tasks; may facilitate outreach team meetings in the absence of Community Outreach Manager.
- Monitors and tracks stock and storage of outreach team equipment, supplies and promotional materials.
- May assist in budget management and tracking outreach related expenses.
Evaluation of COE programming and initiatives:
- Assists in developing evidence-based metrics and tools to evaluate cancer knowledge, preventive behaviors, and connection to care outcomes of outreach activities.
- Conducts program evaluations and related data entry and preliminary analysis of outreach data metrics.
- Assists in ongoing monitoring of outreach performance metrics to assess progress towards COE outcome goals.
- Analyzes a range of educational programs available for cancer education/behavioral promotion as compared with the needs of the community/specific populations; helps select and guide programming for emphasis over ensuing years.
- Assist in collect and analyze data from community stakeholders to inform programming.
Networking with community partners and stakeholders:
- Identifies strategic partnerships with organizations and stakeholders that promote cancer education and awareness.
- Represent UACC-COE on committees and planning groups to facilitate collaboration and resource sharing.
- Serves as a resource for shared community programs, UACC research programs, and services for the community.
- Fosters strategic partnerships and collaborates with stakeholders.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge with delivering health education programs & community outreach to underserved populations.
- Ability to develop, implement, evaluate and improve health education programs and initiatives.
- Ability to guide the development of educational materials and aids, and to promote and present health education initiatives.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
- Ability to collect, document processes, maintain databases, and provide access to resources.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to productively participate in a multi-disciplinary team environment working towards common goals with internal and external partners;
- Ability to manage projects and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, and social media platforms.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- A master's degree (or higher) in public health, oncology nursing, or a related field.
- Significant experience successfully working with underrepresented or diverse participants with a strong knowledge of cancer and health promotion.
- Experience participating in or facilitating community groups, coalitions, or student groups.
- Experience working as a community health worker, promoter, community health representative, public health worker, or social worker.
- Bilingual/Multilingual (English, Spanish, Indigenous language).
