Surgical Innovation Lab (Surgilab)

Our research lab is called the Surgical Innovation Lab, or "Surgilab," and focuses on Surgical Safety and Surgical Education. We are especially interested in how surgeons and other members of the surgical team communicate with each other, and how this impacts surgical safety. We often videotape surgical team members interacting in the operating room and then interview them watching their videos. These interactions can have a big impact on the patient's outcome. We also investigate the biomechanics of performing surgery and how that relates to surgical error. We have many other projects, too.
