East Stroudsburg University's Department of Sociology, Social Work & Criminal Justice is looking for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor in the Sociology program. Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU's proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to professional markets, careers, and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country's largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun.
The successful candidate will join a cohesive, collaborative, and diverse multidisciplinary department that offers majors and minors in Sociology, Social Work, and Criminal Justice. The Sociology program offers a comprehensive foundation of courses and an opportunity for students to select a wide variety of elective courses. Applicants must possess prior university-level teaching experience, and be able to teach both introductory service courses and upper-level major electives. While all specialty areas will be considered, expertise in Medical Sociology, Organizational/Applied Sociology, and/or Inequality/Social Justice is most desirable. The successful candidate will have a 4/4 teaching load and is also expected to maintain a scholarly research agenda and provide service to the Department and University.
Qualifications
- The candidates must have a Ph.D. in Sociology (ABD considered if Dissertation Defense date guarantees conferral of degree before date of appointment).
- Experience teaching Sociology at the post-secondary level, and evidence of ongoing scholarly work are required.
- Experience and ability to work with diverse populations.
- Commitment and value of a collegial and multidisciplinary working environment dedicated to teaching a diverse student population and a passion for serving students and the community is preferred.
